America ‘escaped a bullet.’ Early in 2015 Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was considered a front runner for the GOP presidential nomination. However, he was a poor campaigner and began to lose financial support; he withdrew and is back in his home state making the lives of the state’s residents miserable.
Corruption follows the GOP like a shadow. Whether it be Mark Sanford, Newt Gingrich, Dennis Hastert, or the Bush Administration, they go hand in hand. Scott Walker knew that he would eventually be investigated for illegal practices in Wisconsin once again. He is taking measures to protect himself from prosecution.
The ‘John Doe Law’ conducted secret investigations into possible crimes by executing search warrants and compelling people to testify. It is essentially a grand jury proceeding, with a judge rather than jurors deciding whether there is enough evidence for an indictment.
Until Walker signed a bill which virtually revokes the ‘John Doe Law,’ he could have been investigated again for suspected illegal activity. He experienced two in the recent past. Although the first led to six convictions for misconduct, the second was stopped by Republicans in the legislature.
Under the new law, neither of Walker’s previous investigations would be allowed. Eliminated are bribery, misuse of the powers of his office, campaign finance violations, and many others. The law had been in place since the middle of the 19th century.
Scott Walker’s loss of an opportunity to become our nation’s president is a gain for America. His disdain for the working class in his own state would have transferred to the vast majority of our nation’s citizens.
His failed fiscal policy, which was the same ‘trickle-down economics’ practiced by the Bush Administration, would have increased income inequality and added to our national shame of poverty. Our economy would have taken another downward spiral, and Wall Street would have once again conducted business without transparency.
Once again I question the reasoning behind GOP voters. Why do they continue to vote for the worst possible candidates at the state and federal level based on one reason; party affiliation?
We Independents vote for the best candidate, not for a political party. Our numbers are growing as younger voters become aware of the dangers of becoming loyal to either Democrats, the TEA Party, or Republicans. We don’t elect the Scott Walkers, or the George Bushes; and we would never elect a Donald Trump, a Ben Carson, or a Ted Cruz.
We did vote for intelligent men whose primary concern was the working class; Bill Clinton and Barrack Obama; and we will vote for Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders in 2016.
