With every week Jeb Bush has slipped in the polls. He can’t keep his foot out of his mouth, and admits that he would use his failed older brother’s blueprint as a guideline to lead our nation. But that was insufficient. He found another way to create questions regarding his candidacy in last night’s ‘almost debate.’
He made such a poor impression that his campaign manager, Danny Diaz, was asked if the younger Bush was considering dropping out of the campaign.
“I think we’re in for the long haul and we’re in to win, but I appreciate the question.”
I have taken Bush’s failures personally. I had hoped a moderate, hopefully intelligent candidate would emerge from GOP ranks; I was horribly mistaken. His one attempt at humor failed miserably. He was criticizing Marco Rubio’s voting record in the Senate, and compared his work schedule to a ‘French work week;’ whatever that meant. When Rubio told the truth, for once, he advised Bush that the only reason he was being attacked by his fellow Floridian was that someone told Bush that it would help his campaign. The crowd applauded for Rubio; not good for the former governor.
Bush’s biggest mistake has been including his brother in his campaign. Although some in the GOP, FOX Noise, Rush Limbaugh, and others are in denial, most Americans are fully aware that he will be remembered as America’s worst and most harmful president. The effects of his illegal and immoral actions continue to plague our nation today. When he defended his brother and claimed that he ‘kept us safe,’ he created a firestorm. When some in the GOP attacked Hillary Clinton claiming that she could have prevented the Benghazi tragedy, it caused others to remind the American people that our nation’s intelligence services warned Bush that Osama Bin Laden was planning an attack on our country, he failed to take it seriously. Instead, he went on vacation to Crawford, Texas, and his vice-president, Dick Cheney, was fishing in Montana.
Bush is in great danger of following Scott Walker. In the latest poll he obtained only seven percent, while Carson had 26 percent, and Trump 22 percent. Although Bush has raised the most money to date, that could quickly change, as it did for Walker. Yes, just like an injury lawsuit, it’s all about the money.
The primary reason Carson and Trump lead the GOP is the poor quality of candidates offered them. Those who now work in Washington have failed the American people, and are too far to the right; much farther than their much revered Ronald Reagan. Extremism has not worked for seven years, and voters from both sides are aware of the fact.
Republican voters are no different than Democratic voters and Independents; we know that our nation needs politicians who will truly move towards the middle and work across the aisle. Our nation cannot exist when one group who calls themselves the TEA Party, or the Freedom Caucus, flatly refuses to compromise.
I truly hoped that Jeb Bush would be different than his brother, and show more common sense. Sometimes hope does not ‘spring eternal.’
