Does Marco Rubio Expect a Free Ride?

Rubio and Bush

Questions about Marco Rubio’s personal finances and his extensive use of a GOP credit card while he held office in Florida are fair and legitimate. Rubio lives a life of privilege, and revelations about his poor voting record in the Senate prove that he has a poor work ethic. Ethics are important in daily life, but more so for someone who seeks his party’s presidential nomination. His refusal to answer a question about his personal finances in the third debate forever removed him from my personal acceptance of him as a possible president. He claimed that it was not a fair question; he was incorrect. All is fair when an individual seeks the highest office in our nation. In addition, if he is unable to control his own finances, how can he care for the fiscal health of a nation?

Rubio’s supporters will dismiss his loss of a home and the liquidation of a retirement account which proved costly as a personal situation. I would agree in normal circumstances. This is not one of them. But how can he justify in any way his use of a GOP credit card for other than party business? He used it for movie tickets, trips to Costco, flowers, and airline travel for his wife. Does he expect a free ride in life, paid for by his party and ultimately the taxpayers?

When asked about his misuse, he replied: “Each time, I identified the charges and paid the costs myself, directly to American Express,” he wrote. “The Republican Party of Florida didn’t pay a single one of them.”

How can we know this is in fact the truth? The GOP will cover for him, as they do for all of its member’s indiscretions. Why didn’t he use his own credit cards? There is no logical answer for that.

In the third debate, he called Hillary Clinton a liar, something which has not been proven after hours of wasted time investigating the Benghazi tragedy. Is it fair to call Rubio a liar? I would think so. Is he similar to George W. Bush when he takes more time off than he spends doing the job for which he was elected? Undoubtedly.

Rubio continues to display the fact that he is unqualified to be a candidate for the presidency. Both candidates from Florida should do their party and the American people a favor and withdraw.
