Many of you do not know who Greg Hardy is; I’m going to tell you all about him. It’s not a pretty story. He is 6’ 4” tall and weighs 278 pounds. He plays for the Dallas Cowboys as a defensive end; but he shouldn’t be on anyone’s roster.
Cowboys’ owner Jerry Jones calls him a ‘team leader.’ He praises him and needs him to rush the opposition’s quarterback. Hardy is a large and violent man, but his violence is not reserved for the football field alone.
On May 12, 2014, Hardy attacked his ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder. He threw her on a futon which was covered with rifles and began to choke her. He was subsequently arrested and brought to trial.
Hardy first underwent a ‘bench trial,’ where the judge decided that the evidence mandated a jury trial. Holder failed to attend that trial, and the earlier conviction was reversed. The final outcome resulted in his record being expunged.
Yesterday the pictures of the injuries caused by Hardy were revealed to the media. They were met with outrage, both inside and outside of the NFL.
After the Ray and Janay Rice incident, Commissioner Roger Goodell declared that the league would take domestic violence far more seriously. Hardy had been given a 10 game suspension, but it was reduced to four. This is how he was added to the Cowboy roster at the behest of Jerry Jones.
This is simply more proof that the NFL considers the use of marijuana more serious than aggression against women. It remains a crucial and unforgivable problem to everyone but Roger Goodell and NFL owners.
Jerry Jones has lost all credibility and respect in the NFL. He is concerned with money and winning; people be damned. Hardy should have been banned for life from the league. These pictures reveal a violent and mentally ill individual. When a 280 pound man attacks a woman he is not a man; he is a coward.
Jones is a despicable human being, and an obvious misogynist. My hope is that the Cowboys lose every game for the remainder of the season.
