This incident may not seem like a ‘big deal’ to some. For me it is symbolic. Ignorance, which always results in hatred, is growing in America as a direct result of GOP politician’s bigotry and prejudice. Sadly some politicians are following the example of Donald Trump. His hatred for Hispanics and Muslims has been adopted by his supporters, and is spreading to others who favor the right wing.

For the GOP presidential wannabees, this campaign season is not about the issues, it’s about attacking President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and the opposition in their own party. These attacks are often ‘Rush Limbaugh’ like; filled with vile and intended to incite man’s weakness, emotions. Those who allow emotion to permeate their lives leave intellect behind. When knowledge and understanding are replaced by the acceptance of lies and misdirection purely for the sake of getting votes, our nation is at its worst. The mainstream media recognizes the fact that racism, prejudice and bigotry are increasing, but they refuse to point a finger at the culprits; GOP politicians.

The following story about an attack on a Muslim woman is the direct result of the hateful remarks of Donald Trump, Ben Carson, Ted Cruz, and others.

Dainton Coley, 34, is a postal worker in New York. While still wearing his uniform Coley accosted two women wearing hijabs. He bumped one of the women who was pushing a baby stroller. He began verbally attacking the woman, and then spat on her. They ran, but Coley followed them into a deli and continued his racial slurs. Then he told them that he was going to burn down their place of worship. Coley was later arrested for assault, and committing a hate crime.

Sadly this is not unexpected. E-mails fill the internet containing attacks on Muslims. Some are intended to be funny; they are not. I delete them and never read them. These same people would be extremely angry if these ‘jokes’ were about Christians and the fairy tales in which they believe.

Trump, Carson, and Cruz have portrayed all Muslims as terrorists. George W. Bush was president during the worst attack on our nation in history, and he differentiated between Muslims and extreme jihadism. Trump and Carson want to prohibit all Muslim refugees from Syria seeking asylum in America. Cruz said he would allow only Christian refugees because they would not be terrorists. He must somehow be unaware of the Ku Klux Klan, or those who attempt to kill abortion doctors and nurses. He will most certainly deny that Mr. Coley is a bigot and that he is partly responsible for the man’s prejudice and hatred.

All I can say is ‘wake up America.’ After 9/11 politicians have been brainwashing weak-minded Americans. They have been using fear tactics to control voters and win elections. Fear turns into anger, and anger is the mother of hatred. The only way a member of the GOP can win an election is by inciting weak emotions; they cannot support the issues because they oppose any action which benefits the working class.

Only the American people can take America back. As my grandfather once said: “Vote the bums out.” They’re not doing anything anyway.
