The issues are unimportant to the GOP candidates. Their sole tactic has become attack, attack, attack. This campaign ‘method’ is not reserved for Democrats, they are increasing their criticism of each other. The polls reveal that two TEA Party darlings are in third and fourth place; Rubio and Cruz remain far behind Trump, but they have experienced a recent surge.

I pity GOP voters; the front runners are completely unqualified to lead our nation. Rubio and Cruz have little experience in the federal government; neither has completed their first term in the Senate. Adding to his lack of credibility, Rubio refuses to perform his ‘day’ job, the job for which he was elected, to pursue his ambition to live in the White House. Cruz is the most extreme member of Congress. He has alienated many in his own party for his refusal to work for the betterment of the nation as he supports the owners of his TEA Party. His obstructionism is the main reason our government is broken. In reality he too has failed to do his job; the job for which he was elected. He would act in the same manner if he became our president.

Cruz and Rubio are now attacking each other in a desperate attempt to rise in the polls. The issue is Cruz’ support for the USA Freedom Act which eliminates the bulk collection of information by the NSA. Rubio favored the retention of all sections of the Patriot Act, and chastised Cruz for weakening national security.

Cruz responded: “I think Senator Rubio’s campaign is very, very dismayed at conservatives coming together behind our campaign and is attempting to mislead voters in an effort to slow that down.”

Although it was never challenged before the Supreme Court, the Patriot Act was unconstitutional. It was a direct violation of the fourth amendment and resulted in not only illegal search and seizure of information, but also the confiscation of valuables by law enforcement from America’s citizens. I realize that for the first time since I began writing about Cruz I may be supporting his position on an issue.

The truth is that Cruz is a destructive force. He has been instrumental in creating the gridlock in Washington, and is a danger to our nation. Without the ability and will to deliberate and compromise, our government cannot and does not work.

Rubio is no better. He continues to change his position on the issues, and constantly reveals his lack of experience and knowledge. Simply put, he is a wimp. His speeches come from a position of weakness, not of strength. His inability to handle personal finances has become an issue, and rightfully so. What would his economic policy be if he was elected to the presidency?

Many blame Trump for the GOP dwelling in ‘attack mode.’ They would be wrong. It all began with the 2000 election. Since that year this has been the strategy of the GOP. They are unable to stand on the issues, issues important to the majority of Americans, but denied by them. They prefer to attack and evoke an irrational and emotional response

While the GOP self-destructs, the Democratic candidates are delivering their message and gaining support.
