Some believe that Hillary Clinton is a guarantee to win the Democratic Party’s nomination for the presidency in 2016. Not so fast. Democrats listen closely to what and how their candidates say in the debates and to the press. They expect intelligent responses to intelligent questions.
In 2008 Ms. Clinton miscalculated the voting public. Although they had no resemblance to the vile attacks by GOP candidates today, she did attack Barrack Obama, questioning his ability regarding foreign relations, and his preparedness to respond to a national emergency.
Before the Iowa caucus in December of 2007, Clinton polled at 48 percent; Obama at 22, less than 50 percent of Ms. Clinton’s numbers. Over time Clinton increased her lead over Obama by 30 percent. We all know what happened, and learned that the polls often mean absolutely nothing.
Some Democrats have openly stated that they would not support a Clinton candidacy. One again, it’s only a poll; a great deal depends on the GOP candidate. However, more Democrats do align themselves with Senator Bernie Sanders’ position on the issues important to them. His courage is admirable as he ignores criticism from the right and Wall Street. He is the only politician to openly state the truth; capitalism has failed our nation. It has reached what was predicted. Corporations care about profits, not the security and welfare of their employees. The result has been a rising income inequality and a growth in the number of men, women, and children living at the poverty level. Millions of Americans are more concerned with gun ownership than education; Sanders refuses to accept that fact, seeking affordable education for all.
Clinton is once again leading in the polls. But I must question if they are believable. Will history be repeated, or will she secure her party’s nomination?
