I enjoy the ‘Daily Beast,’ but just as FOX Noise occasionally gets something right, the ‘Beast’ can be equally wrong.
I read an article denouncing the protests regarding the manufacturing of food using GMOs. The author claims that there is no scientific proof that they can cause long term health conditions if they are consumed.
It’s true that the FDA found no potential threats to the health of humans, but it is the only agency in the world which made that claim. By the way, the testing was conducted by Monsanto, the largest producer of GMO products.
60 nations around the world have either banned their use or required labeling foods which were manufactured with the use of GMOs. Their scientists are convinced that long-term illness and organ failure can result from ingesting food items which are manufacture with the use of chemicals.
The claim by Monsanto is that GMOs were created to increase the world’s food supply; not true.
Monsanto produces the world’s most popular herbicide; ‘Roundup.’ Weeds which grew amongst crops became resistant to the poison. Monsanto was aware that they must develop a stronger and more potent version of ‘Roundup.’ There was a single problem; it would also kill the crops. Their solution was GMOs, which made the desirable plants immune to ‘Roundup.’
This more lethal version of the herbicide caused an additional problem. Runoff from the fields into streams and rivers has polluted the water supply in areas around the world.
Who is Monsanto? For those of you who are not aware of their history, they produced ‘Agent Orange’ during the Vietnam War. Although the chemical company promised that it would only kill foliage and was not harmful to humans, many veterans from Southeast Asia began to complain of illness after arriving home. Nearly 40,000 veterans complained of chronic illness from exposure to Agent Orange by 1993; only 486 were compensated. Vietnam states that one-million of its citizens are suffering from the lethal defoliant. Monsanto cannot be trusted.
The American people have a right to know what is in the food they purchase. Food items manufactured with the use of GMOs must be labeled and allow the consumer to make their own choice whether to purchase the item or not. The majority of America’s grocers have aligned themselves with Monsanto and are fighting the labeling of items on their shelves.
All of America should do what my wife has done; she grows our vegetables in her garden. Communal vegetable gardens could be constructed throughout the nation with ease an little cost.
