Only two things were truthful about the Republican ‘debate’ on the FOX Business Channel; it was filled with lies, and, of course, empty attacks. Thursday nights debacle once again failed to contain substance; it became another ‘he said, she said’ event.
The expected did happen, and that was the best part of the evening. Cruz and Trump acted like little children as they bickered about Cruz’ citizenship. This may have been the saddest moment of the show, as Trump renewed his ‘birther’ tactics. According to Immigration laws, a ‘natural born citizen must have “been born in the United States or certain territories or outlying possessions of the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction of the United States; OR had a parent or parents who were citizens at the time of your birth (if you were born abroad) and meet other requirements.”
This one attack proved for once and for all that Trump is not qualified to lead our nation; he has no knowledge regarding the laws of our nation.
But I’m not letting Cruz slip away without exposing another lie by the most extreme of our government’s obstructionists.
Marco Rubio attacked Cruz for a proposal to add a 16 percent tax to business. Although Cruz defended his unfortunate choice, Rubio was correct. This tax would be a ‘value added tax,’ which is in opposition to conservative ‘principles.’
Before I write the next sad exchange, let me state my belief about an important fact. Conservatives have destroyed American politics. Their extremism and negative approach to the future of our nation is moving our country backwards. America cannot survive without a more ‘centrist’ political system.
Cruz attacked the people of New York, claiming that ‘not many conservatives come from Manhattan.’ This was in response to Trump stating that not ‘many evangelicals come out of Cuba.’ Trump’s response to Cruz used the old George W. Bush tactic of referring to the 9/11 attacks. This may have been the ‘low point’ of the evening. It revealed the total lack of talent and intellect of two of the three leading candidates.
Rubio’s camp has said that they believe he will eventually triumph over Donald Trump. That remains to be seen. At present he is third in the polls, behind fellow TEA Party darling Ted Cruz. He must beat the junior Senator from Texas if he is to challenge Trump.
Rubio launched a barrage of attacks against Cruz. He accused him of “flip flopping on immigration, birthright citizenship, crop insurance, trade legislation, ethanol subsidies, and even said Cruz wanted to cut military spending.”
Cruz’ only defense was denial, and a short quip. He said “I appreciate your dumping your research folder on the debate stage.”
It was interesting to note that little discussion was made about Cruz’ failure to reveal a one-million-dollar campaign loan obtained for his 2012 Senatorial campaign.
Rubio also attacked Chris Christie, who has recently displayed some movement in the Iowa polls. He accused the New Jersey Governor of flip flopping on immigration and common core. He also attacked him for his previous support of the nomination of Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor; a fact Christie has attempted to deny.
The biggest lie of the evening was from the ‘earlier debate.’ Failed candidate Rick Santorum claimed that under the Obama Administration two million manufacturing jobs were lost. First of all, outsourcing was rampant under the George W. Bush Administration, a failed presidency all members of the GOP would like us to forget. Secondly, the factual number is 230,000.
Every faux-debate adds to the proof that not one of these clown car passengers is qualified to be the President of the United States. Sadly, the imploding GOP has failed to offer one impressive man or woman for the race to the White House.
