Capitalism: “An economic, political, and social system in which property, business, and industry are privately owned, directed towards making the greatest possible profits for successful organizations and people.”
A quote I heard in a movie defined the United States of America today: “America is not a country, it’s a business.” It is the most factual comment ever made regarding the condition of our political system today. Billionaires, not the voting public, control everything which happens in our nation. The Democratic Republic established by our founding fathers has devolved into an oligarchy.
There is only one candidate from either party who is telling the truth, and wants to return our nation to its former greatness; Bernie Sanders. If the fact that he calls himself a ‘Democratic Socialist’ frightens you, you must be old enough to remember Joseph McCarthy and his ‘witch hunt,’ and are making an unfair comparison. A nation is not composed of its government; it is the people. Sanders is the only patriot seeking the presidency.
Millennials, 18-29, are the most informed voting bloc in our nation. They support Senator Sanders by a margin of 68 percent. They don’t watch television for information about the candidates; they use their I-phones and androids to find the truth.
The truth is that there is no secretive group which meets behind closed doors, wealthy Americans are openly discussing and deciding government action locally, statewide, and on the federal level.
The Koch brothers have taken the situation to another level. When they instituted the TEA Party into American politics in 2010, it was just a beginning. They now have a nationwide organization of more than 1,200 men and women, and are planning to spend over $800 million during the 2016 campaign season. This effort far surpasses that of the RNC. They are prepared to separate from the Republican Party, and their goal is not the return of our nation to a democracy.
Greed is the eventual result of capitalism. No longer does a corporation share its profits with those who actually do the work. The policy of ‘profit before people’ has flourished since 2000.
It should be no surprise to anyone that our nation is now ruled by an oligarchy; it’s simply the evolution of capitalism.
