The term “Republican” is used in a very loose manner. Republican voters have not been offered a single candidate for the 2016 election. The definition of a ‘Republican’ is short and simple; “a person who supports or believes in representative government.”
Throughout our nation’s history some of our greatest leaders were Republicans whose leadership and ideas benefitted all of the American people. Take a moment and think about the accomplishments of Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight D. Eisenhower, and most recently George H.W. Bush. These were men who were proud to serve the American people and believed in the Constitution and the principles of our founding fathers.
Today’s Republican party fails its definition and ideals. It does not represent me, you, or our families. It is a party owned by special interests. They must change the name of the party; calling themselves ‘Republicans’ is an insult to the great men and women from our past.
The race for the GOP nomination appears to have become a contest between two candidates; Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. Both men are highly disliked by those who call themselves Republicans. Neither has any resemblance to the term ‘Republican.’
The GOP has become the Conservative Party. It is a party of extremists and obstructionists, led by the TEA Party.
Ted Cruz had the unmitigated gall to compare his candidacy to that of Ronald Reagan. Ronald Reagan’s greatest talent was as a diplomat. Cruz does not believe in any form of diplomacy. Cruz is the leader of the ‘party of no.’ He led the fight to shut down the government, and continues to be at odds with Republican leadership.
Trump continues to attack everyone while praising himself for doing nothing for our nation. What he has accomplished is the embarrassment of our nation. As the leader of the GOP his rhetoric displays that his party is racist, bigoted, homophobic, and misogynist.
Here’s the truth about the Republican Party. It has failed to recognize and respect the changes in our nations demographics and values. It continues to appeal to white men and women above the age of fifty; but not to me.
Within the next 10 years, whites will no longer be the majority. The fastest growing demographic is Hispanic, while Asian Americans and blacks follow closely behind.
Millennial Americans, ages 18-29, of all races support change in our nation. They reject the capitalistic ideal, as represented by their overwhelming support for Bernie Sanders; they do not see color; they do not fear the LGBT community; women are equal to men; and they tend avoid organized religion. This is the future; in 20 years they will control everything that happens in our nation; and they are aware of that fact.
The right to vote at age 18 came long after my time. It was initially considered unimportant because few of them went to the polls. That is not the truth today. Polls show that they are interested in their country and the future in which they will work and raise families.
Single women appeared uninterested in politics in the past. Today they are choosing to stay unmarried late into their twenties or remain single. Careers are more important than finding a husband. Enrollment in colleges and universities is higher for young women than young men.
Support for Donald Trump is an expression of the distaste GOP voters have for those who call themselves Republicans; he is the ‘anti-Republican.’
Cruz is not a Republican; he is the leader of the TEA Party whose plans for our nation defy the Constitution and the intent of our founding fathers. He is a religious extremist who would follow his pastor and ignore the needs of the majority of Americans.
The truth is that the implosion of the GOP is reaching its final point far more quickly than expected. The Koch brothers have installed a formidable force under the guise of their ‘Americans for Prosperity’ organization. They outnumber the members of the RNC and will spend more money in 2016 than the national organization. Their goal is obvious; to separate from the GOP and make their TEA Party a national force.
The American people have but a single weapon to recapture our country; and no it’s not the second amendment. We can vote for legitimate candidates who will vote for us and not their owners.
Be informed. Deny the politics of fear. Refuse to allow your emotions to overrule your intellect.
