FOX Noise will host another ‘debate’ Thursday evening. It will be the seventh of these fiascos and the final one before the Iowa Caucus. The GOP candidates, at least some of them, will stand on a stage and yell at each other. If you notice, I seldom refer to the GOP as the Republican Party. I have an excellent reason for this; I haven’t heard or seen a true Republican since George H.W. Bush. Like Ronald Reagan’s daughter, Patti, who told reporters that he would be ashamed of all of today’s presidential hopefuls, I see no resemblance to any of the great Republicans in the past. They have no ideas, and none of the party’s ideals or principles.
So what can we expect from Thursday night’s performance? Certainly it won’t be a debate; there hasn’t been one yet, so why start now? There has been no discussion regarding domestic issues because the position of these individuals is in direct opposition to the wishes of the working class. What has happened, and what we can expect in four days, is more attacks.
For me it’s perfectly acceptable to criticize President Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Bernie Sanders, even if their tirades are based on lies and misdirection. Sadly, most of the attacks will be on the two leading candidates; the driver of the clown car, Donald Trump, and the man in the ‘shotgun’ seat, Ted Cruz.
Averaging all of the latest GOP polls, Trump is at 34.6 percent, Cruz at 18.8 percent, and Rubio at 11.2 percent. None of the other eight are in double figures. This has caused desperation among the others including Jeb Bush who is polling at 4.8 percent, and Christie at 3.6 percent. Rand Paul is at 2.2 percent and will likely be relegated to the ‘cocktail hour debate.’
Expect to see attacks on Trump for his stand on several controversial issues. Although the others have not stated a position on most of them, Trump has consistently introduced selective problems and screams about them incessantly.
Ted Cruz is an easy target; he is so far to the right he’s in another dimension. But he will be attacked primarily for pandering, and seeking and accepting campaign loans in excess of one-million dollars in 2012 from Wall Street banks without full disclosure.
The only entertainment in the evening may be twofold. Jeb Bush will continue to make a fool of himself, and, hopefully, the battle between Trump and Megyn Kelly will be renewed.
What’s important to know is that Iowa voters are historically late bloomers. The Caucus will be held just four days after the debate, and Iowa voters will be listening, and listening intently. A single ‘misspeak’ could cost a candidate thousands of votes.
Because the ‘debate’ is hosted by FOX Noise, don’t expect to see an intellectual discussion. I wouldn’t expect a serious debate under any conditions because the candidates are lacking in intellect and ability, but the moderators are ‘pretend journalists’ and therefor totally unqualified to have control over the evening’s proceedings.
Don’t forget to set your ‘DVR’s’ for Thursday evening; you don’t want to miss this school yard brawl.
