Those who call themselves ‘Republicans’ today are caricatures of what was once a great political party. They preach fear, anger, and hatred, and claim that the United States is the only great nation in the world. They deny the facts they our country is no longer rated in the top ten, and they attempt to convince us that all nations other than ours are inferior. The GOP has become a party of elitists who demean the world’s population if they are not American and Christian.

The leader of the Republican Party is Donald Trump. We must define who he really is. He is an opportunist. The United States means nothing to him with exception of making money. He has absolutely no knowledge of our nation’s history, and what it truly means to be a patriot. He has no values; his only goal is his fame and fortune. Trump’s ‘ideals’ would destroy our nation and move the American people into a plutocracy. His racist and bigoted principles are in direct opposition to the Constitution of the United States.

Trump is a creation of the ignorant electorate of the 2014 midterm elections. Unqualified candidates who had no concern for the majority of the American people gave control of the Congress to the Republican Party. The result was the destruction of our political system. Our nation devolved from a Democratic Republic to an Oligarchy. The working class was relegated to a condition of servitude to the wealthy.

Conservatives seek the past. They would like our nation to become isolationist. Their failure to understand that we cannot exist without the cooperation and support of other nations in the world could result in the demise of our country.

We have but one world, and every nation must be involved it its future. Denying science and the reality of climate change caused by man is the greatest danger to the planet. Only one small group continues to resist this fact which is recognized throughout the world; the Republican Party.

In the past, true Republicans led the fight to save our environment. On July 9, 1970, Republican President Richard Nixon announced to Congress his plans to create the Environmental Protection Agency and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. By the end of that year, both agencies were a reality. Today’s right wing obstructionists want to eliminate the EPA entirely to allow their wealthy owners unrestricted pollution of our air, water, and soil.

The goal of our leaders must be to reclaim the title of ‘greatest nation in the world.’ That can only be accomplished if our president and congress places the needs of the majority ahead of special interests. The welfare of all people around the world must be a part of our government’s concerns. Refugees from the Middle East continue to suffer and many in our Congress deny this disaster. They claim to be Christian but refuse to grasp the teachings of Jesus Christ.

If you are a regular reader you are likely tired of reading the same thing, but it’s important that every American recognizes the truth. The once respected and much needed Republican Party no longer exists. It has no resemblance to its valuable history. It has become a party of ambitious men and women who believe in extremist policy.

Ignoring the efforts of past Republicans has destroyed the once ‘Grand Old Party.’
