Ted Cruz wanted to shut down the federal government once again over defunding Planned Parenthood. The religious extremist and opportunist supported altered recordings by an anti-abortion group as a way to influence a section of the GOP base. We knew he was wrong, again, and now the grand jury in his own state of Texas is indicting the filmmakers.
But it wasn’t Cruz who waged the crusade alone. All of the GOP presidential hopefuls joined him. Carly Fiorina falsified a story about one clinic during one of their fake presidential debates.
Planned Parenthood has assisted millions of poor American women with reproductive problems for decades, at little or no cost to the patient. They have not received funds for abortion since 1976, with the exception of rape or incest. The Christian religious right has sought its destruction for many years based on their misguided beliefs.
This is another example of rash decisions made by those who call themselves conservatives. Facts and the truth are of little importance; sensationalism is their goal. All of the candidates were eager to believe the videos, none of the questioned their authenticity.
The Harris County District Attorney in Texas issued the following statement about the two criminals, Daleiden and Merritt, who created the fake videos.
“As I stated at the outset of this investigation, we must go where the evidence leads us. All the evidence uncovered in the course of this investigation was presented to the grand jury. I respect their decision on this difficult case.”
Planned Parenthood responded.
“These people broke the law to spread malicious lies about Planned Parenthood in order to advance their extreme anti-abortion political agenda. As the dust settles and the truth comes out, it’s become totally clear that the only people who engaged in wrongdoing are the criminals behind this fraud, and we’re glad they’re being held accountable,” Eric Ferrero, a spokesman for Planned Parenthood Federation of America, said in a statement.
Will we hear a retraction and apology from Ted Cruz or Carly Fiorina? Not in a million years. These are two of many sanctimonious individuals on the extreme right and supporters of religious fanatics who seek additional power over the policies of our government.
The latest mentally incompetent Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, who is following in the infamous footsteps of George W. Bush and Rick Perry, doesn’t agree. He continues to demean Planned Parenthood.
“Nothing about today’s announcement in Harris County impacts the state’s ongoing investigation,” Abbott said in a statement. “The State of Texas will continue to protect life, and I will continue to support legislation prohibiting the sale or transfer of fetal tissue.”
Abbott is another anti-abortion bigot and hater of women and minorities who will never end his attacks until all women are once again slaves to men.
Texas Republicans will never cease their efforts to surpass Alabama as the most racist, bigoted, and misogynist state in the union.
These filmmakers committed a felony, but more importantly they damaged the reputation of a great organization. They are also responsible for the murder of three innocents at a Colorado Planned Parenthood clinic. The terrorist mumbled about ‘baby parts’ as he shot and killed his victims.
