Republicans and conservatives are angry and very frightened. The worst has happened. The candidate most despised by the GOP hierarchy is leading in all polls. Republicans are also upset that Ted Cruz is second, the one extremist conservative they believe cannot win in November. They continue to blame the President, the “liberal press,” and anyone else they can think of for Trump’s success other than where the blame actually lies; themselves.
The ultimate denial came from a sad, hate-filled radio broadcast by the infamous Rush Limbaugh. He completely ignores the fact that the GOP has failed the American people and they are angry. They fail to reach across the aisle and negotiate with their Democratic counterparts, and the result has been the destruction of our government.
Here is some of Limbaugh’s attempt at misdirection.
“And Obama’s actually the starting point. It’s Obama’s radicalism that actually begins the process which creates a scenario where somebody like Donald Trump charges in to fill an absolutely, impossibly huge vacuum.”
President Obama has been blamed for everything for seven years, but here is the biggest lie yet by a conservative who is too far to the right of American politics.
“He is the most radical leftist that has been elected president, that has even gotten close to it. And because Obama was not stopped, because the Republican Party laid down — I’m telling, folks, Donald Trump would not have exploded. Donald Trump would not have thought to even do any of this, nor would any other outsider.”
Let’s see, can I find any truth in his tirade? No matter how hard I try, the answer is no.
The Republican Party began to implode in 2010 with the introduction of the TEA Party. A lack of leadership by John Boehner and Mitch McConnell allowed these extremists to destroy our political system. Their pledge to ‘never compromise’ resulted in gridlock as was the intention of the founders and owners of the TEA Party, the Koch brothers.
True Republicans are credited for much of the successful legislation accomplished by Congress throughout history, including social programs.
I could go all the way back to Lincoln, but we need only to look at the successes of George H.W. Bush to witness the acts of a true Republican.
Bush was left with a huge deficit after eight years of Ronald Reagan’s failed ‘trickle-down’ economics. He negotiated with Democrats, and eventually agreed that a tax raise was necessary. He was ostracized by his own party because of a previous campaign pledge; “Read my lips, no new taxes.” He did what was good for the country, rightfully assuming this act would result in the failure of his reelection quest.
Bush signed the “Americans with Disabilities Act;” he worked to increase federal spending for education, childcare, and advanced technology research; he signed into law measures to improve our nation’s highways; he reauthorized the “Clean Air Act” to protect our nation’s environment; he signed the “Immigration Act of 1990” which allowed an increase of 40 percent in legal immigration, including some formerly undocumented residents; and although he had been awarded a ‘lifetime membership by the NRA,’ in 1989 he signed a temporary ban on the import of certain semiautomatic weapons. In 1992 the NRA refused to endorse him for reelection.
This was a true Republican president. This was a man who deserves the respect and admiration of all of our nation’s people, unlike the sad pretend Republicans offered to us today.
Rush Limbaugh must be denounced by all intelligent Americans. He is divisive, a blatant prevaricator, and the primary reason hatred rules many of our nation’s people.
Say good-bye to Rush; and good riddance.
