Rick Santorum withdrew from the race for the Republican presidential nomination, and immediate gave his support to Marco Rubio.
Appearing on a morning talk show on MSNBC called “Morning Joe,” the host, Joe Scarborough, asked Santorum what he believed were Marco Rubio’s greatest accomplishments. That immediately became a problem. He couldn’t name one. Finally, he attempted to make excuses for the young Senator.
“You know, here’s what I would say about that. My feeling on Marco is someone who has tremendous potential, tremendous gifts. If you look at being a minority in the United States Senate in a year where nothing got — four years where nothing got done, I guess it’s hard to say there are accomplishments. I mean, you tell me what happened during that four years that was accomplishment for anybody? I mean, it was a complete gridlock.” A gridlock I might point out which was caused by Rubio’s TEA Party friends.
Of course, I have asked the same question about Rand Paul and Ted Cruz; none of the three had one positive accomplishment in their time in the Senate. The label ‘unqualified’ applies to all three.
But, if you really think about it, none of the GOP candidates are qualified to lead our nation. We suffered under four years of a Republican governor who became our president, and we can’t let that happen again. And Donald Trump, Ben Carson, and Carly Fiorina have zero government experience. Some choices Republican leadership has given voters.
As Scarborough pressed Santorum for a direct answer, he was stymied. It was hard for Rubio to accomplish anything while he missed 40 percent of the votes on the Senate Floor while he was our campaigning.
Maybe Rubio should run for president of his children’s PTA; that position doesn’t require a resume either.
