When a policy by the American government has failed for 55 years, should it not be abandoned? Should disagreements between the leaders of nations continue to cause suffering for the people of two countries?
Last year President Obama sought the renewal of relations between the United States and the island nation of Cuba. This will eventually result in renewed relationships between families, and trade relations which will benefit both countries. Everyone is pleased with the exception of a few in Congress, especially two TEA Party extremists who are seeking the office of the President of the United States.
The President further aggravated Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio when he announced today that he would visit Cuba next month. Once again, the citizens of both nations are pleased, but a few backwards thinking politicians are furious.
Not only were Cruz and Rubio vociferous about this move by the President, one other individual who is obviously not a student of history criticized Mr. Obama as well.
“Pitiful that Obama rewards Castros with visit to Cuba while conditions for the Cuban people are getting worse,” said Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, a Cuban-American Republican congresswoman from south Florida.
The ignorance of many in our nation’s government never fails to astound me. The President is not rewarding the Castros; they are old men who will not be in power ten or twenty years from now; but the Cuban people will remain. In addition, Ros-Lehtinen’s claim that life is getting worse for Cubans has no basis in reality.
Einstein once said: “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.” This applies to many of conservative’s beliefs and policies.
When will our nation join the remainder of the world and recognize the fact that people all over the world want the same things, regardless of race, religion, or ethnicity?
All governments are bad because they prevent the people of the world from being united. The American government is one of the worst; believing in profit over people.
Rubio and Cruz are once again displaying their immaturity and lack of qualifications to lead the free world.
