Scalia’s Death Demonstrates the Weakness of Republicans

SCOTUS (2)

The death of Supreme Court Justice came at a time when intelligent men would have grabbed an opportunity to express their knowledge and respect for the law of the land. The fact that the ninth Republican ‘debate’ occurred the evening after his demise could have been seized by one of the more knowledgeable candidates to offer the American public an understanding of the Constitution, and the need to keep the Court an effective part of our balanced political system.

That didn’t happen. Instead they all revealed their lack of knowledge of our system of law and sought to extend their extremist philosophies.

Loyal, uninformed Republicans, may support their embarrassing display, but Independents were given more questions and doubts as to why they should support any of the six fools on the stage.

Although Trump cannot be forgiven for his ignorance, the greatest blame must be awarded to Cruz and Rubio. They are sitting United States Senators. Apparently, they have no understanding of their job description. They were elected to do one job, and they have continually failed. Being unaware of the responsibilities of the president and the senate required by the death of a Justice is unforgivable, and offers additional proof of their lack of qualifications to lead our nation.

Our founding fathers demonstrated great wisdom when they created three branches of government. This was intended to insure that no single branch could become powerful enough to dominate the events which would occur in our nation.

The Supreme Court must be a fully functioning branch if government conducts business in a democratic fashion.

The Court would be entirely void of substance if only eight members were required to address the constitutionality of the issues before them. With the politicization of the Court, it is likely that many of the issues before them would receive a ‘tie’ vote.

President Obama has not only the right, but an obligation to nominate a successor to Scalia.

GOP rants are not based on the Constitution; they are based on a desire to force their owner’s plans and desires upon the American people.

Those who proclaim the loudest; (Ted Cruz); are only concerned with the issue of abortion. His need for the support of the Christian religious right is transparent and his pandering is obvious. Cruz has no concern for facts.

Polls based on issues other than the legality of abortion reveal the issue in ways which were previously ignored. Most Americans, whether they claim to be pro-life or pro-choice, believe that women have the right to make health decisions regarding their own bodies.

Abortion should never have become a political issue; this is a personal and difficult decision for the woman who is forced to make that choice.

Republicans have no desire to support the rights of women; they serve the ‘man behind the pulpit.’ Religion must not interfere in the lives of the American people unless they invite it into their lives.

The Supreme Court has one purpose; to decide if laws passed by legislators at any level are in violation of the Constitution.

Republicans once believed that direct involvement in the rights of individuals was unforgivable; not today’s GOP. They want to control every action we take and insure that we live according to their standards.

The Republican candidates are both underestimating President Obama’s intelligence and a lack of their own by suggesting that he will nominate a Justice who is far to the left of the political spectrum.

According to the Constitution, they must vet his nominee, and vote according to his or her responses.
