For seven years the party of ‘no’ has failed the American people by refusing to do the job for which they were elected; and two of them want to do nothing as our president. The worst of these failures is Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. From President Obama’s first year, when he openly stated that the Senate would do nothing with the exception of rejecting every proposal by the president, while conspiring to guarantee that he would only serve one term in office. How did that work for you, Mitch?
How he became the leader of Republican Senators, I will never understand; he is one of the main reasons the TEA Party runs Congress, and little has been accomplished of a serious nature in the past seven years.
His latest promise not to do his job involves the Supreme Court. He would allow the court to be dysfunctional, rather than obey his oath of office; to support the Constitution.
“Presidents have a right to nominate just as the Senate has its constitutional right to provide or withhold consent. In this case, the Senate will withhold it,” McConnell said on the Senate floor. “The Senate will appropriately revisit the matter after the American people finish making in November the decision they’ve already started making today.”
He doesn’t believe in the Constitution; he wants it his way and denies the right of the President and the intent of our founding fathers.
Now for the truth, which the media nor the GOP will admit. The right wing is afraid that the President will appoint an intelligent moderate to the Court who will not favor the conservative point of view. Furthermore, if Hillary Clinton or Bernie Sanders wins in November, it is highly likely that Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Stephen Breyer will retire. Their successors would likely lean more to the left than the right. Here’s a fact which proves the ignorance of McConnell and his cronies. It is more likely that President Obama will nominate a neutral Justice than either Clinton or Sanders. That would mean that there could be three left-leaning Justices nominated in 2017; so why wait?
The second part of this story is another truth you won’t hear anywhere else. Antonin Scalia was a blight on the court. He supported every conservative issue without conscience, and voted against every issue which would benefit the majority of our nation’s people. The praise he has received since his death is a farce.
Mitch McConnell is the worst Senate Majority Leader I have witnessed in my 59 years of following politics. He lacks a sense of duty, ignores the Constitution, and has questionable intellect.
Finally, McConnell is making it easier for the Democrats to regain control of the Senate and acquire additional seats in the House in November’s election, by proving to the American people that Republicans are the problem in Washington. A poll reveals that 56 percent of the American people approve President Obama’s intention to nominate a successor to Scalia. Not a very bright move, but predictable.
McConnell is a Republican first and an American second; he’s just not very good at either.
