I don’t know if today’s endorsement of Donald Trump by Chris Christie will boost his campaign, but it may harm Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio. Here is Christie’s statement.
“First is that Donald and I along with Melania and Mary Pat have been friends for over a decade. He has been a good and loyal friend to our family,” Christie said. “Secondly, I’ve been on that stage. I’ve gotten to know all the people on that stage. And there is no one who is better prepared to provide America with strong leadership that it needs both at home and around the world than Donald Trump.”
Christie made his announcement at a Trump rally in Fort Worth, Texas, and said he was “proud to be on the Trump team.”
Governor Christie resigned from his own campaign after a sixth place finish in New Hampshire. His shining moment was during a debate when his challenge of Marco Rubio had the young Senator repeating himself, and unable to make sensible statements.
As of today, Cruz continues to lead in the Super Tuesday polls in his home state of Texas. He receives 34 percent of the vote; Trump 26.8; and Rubio a distant third at 18.2 percent. Cruz’ lead could be in jeopardy.
Regardless of the outcome, because the Texas Primary is before March 15th, the delegates will be divided among the candidates. If Trump finishes a close second, he will be the actual winner.
The Florida Primary takes place on March 15th. It appears that Rubio is in serious trouble. Apparently he did not receive support from Jeb Bush’s followers. As of today Trump has a huge lead in the Sunshine State. His 40.3 percent is followed by Rubio at 20.8 percent and Cruz at 15.8.
Mainstream Republicans support Rubio, and it is likely that he will receive some endorsements in the future; for reasons of desperation if nothing else. Cruz is disliked by everyone in Washington. His failure to work with his own party and Democrats have made him a political pariah.
Christie is a strong campaigner, and will likely benefit Trump to some degree; but does he need it?
By the way; since she endorsed Trump where has Sarah Palin disappeared to? After her embarrassing and rambling speech, is it possible the Trump told her ‘thanks, but no thanks?’
Just wondering.
