United States Senate to Protect Monsanto

Poison

If you are a regular reader, I apologize. I must once again describe how GMOs came to be and what the world thinks about their danger to human beings before I explain the latest action by our government to protect the agro-chemical giant.

Monsanto is the largest manufacturer of GMOs in the world. They claim that their intent was to increase the world’s food supply. That is a blatant lie. Here’s the truth which you’ll never learn from mainstream media.

First of all, let’s go back to the Vietnam War to demonstrate why Monsanto cannot be trusted. Monsanto developed ‘Agent Orange,’ a defoliant which they promised would destroy jungle growth, but not harm humans. I do not need to tell you what happened as our military began to come home.

Monsanto’s biggest seller is ‘Roundup.’ This herbicide is widely used around the world to kill weeds which grown among the crops. Several years ago farmers discovered that the weeds had adapted to Roundup and not only did crops survive, but weeds flourished as well.

Monsanto decided to strengthen its biggest selling product, but how would they keep the crops safe from a stronger Roundup formula? The solution was GMOs. Plants grown with their use were not harmed by the more potent herbicide.

Scientists around the world became suspicious about the chemicals which were eventually added to their food. After extensive testing, scientists in more than 60 nations around the world came to the conclusion that long term effects from food grown with the use of GMOs were harmful to human beings. All of Europe, and nations such as Australia and Japan have either banned food products produced with GMO use, or required labels informing consumers about the content of the food products they purchased.

The FDA decided to require testing of GMO products. They came to the conclusion that there was no danger to public health and allowed Monsanto to continue production. Who performed the tests? Monsanto.

Some states began to pass laws requiring labels on food products.

The United States Senate doesn’t believe that consumers have the right to know what is contained in their food. A committee is considering the submission of a bill which would prohibit states from requiring mandatory labeling of foods manufactured with GMOs. Instead, they would allow ‘voluntary labeling.’

Our government and the agency designed to protect consumers, the FDA, are clearly in collusion with big business. This is another attempt to create an oligarchy and remove our democracy.

Another serious danger to life is seldom if ever discussed in the media.

This stronger form of Roundup is poisoning fresh water supplies. Runoff from the fields are contaminating streams, rivers, and lakes across the nation.

Americans must stand up and demand that our government cease removing our rights. How can the Senate be allowed to keep the American people from knowing what is contained in the food we purchase? In truth it doesn’t matter whether GMOs are dangerous or not; we have a right to know and make our own decisions.

The conservative movement continually seeks to destroy our freedoms by controlling personal actions and rights in support of the one-percent. We must stop this now, or there will be no tomorrow for our nation.
