I seldom agree with Lindsey Graham on anything. He is too much of a ‘hawk,’ and his criticism of President Obama and Hillary Clinton is often unfair, but I cannot disagree with his assessment of Republican offerings for the 2016 presidency.
His overall summation of his opinion was offered in a single sentence: Graham said the party has gone “batsh** crazy” by jeopardizing its chances of beating Hillary Clinton.
Graham is seldom humorous, but this could have been a Comedy Central Celebrity Roast. This is what he said about Ted Cruz.
“If you kill Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody could convict you,” Graham joked.
Ben Carson and Marco Rubio were not excluded.
Rubio: “I’m not saying he would change his positions, but he would change his positions. The Secret Service’s main job if he’s president is to keep him hydrated,” Graham said.
About Carson: “He tried to kill his cousin, hit his mother in the head with a hammer,” Graham said, referring to incidents that happened Carson’s youth. “He’s the one we all like. How did I lose to these guys?”
Of course he couldn’t leave Hillary out of his rant.
“The most dishonest person in America is a woman, who’s about to be president,” he joked.
When talking about Donald Trump, he was more serious.
“I don’t know how I can best describe Donald Trump but I can say this; I don’t think he understands what makes America great. I know I’m supposed to be funny. I’m not really happy about where the country is right now,” he said.
Lindsey, you are not alone. All I can say is that the Republican Party has ‘left the building.’ There is little or no similarity to Republicans from the past who worked for the American people by deliberating the issues in an honest manner, and finding compromise. Debates were actually debates, and yelling and personal attacks were directed at the opposing party.
After the last faux-debate, every sane person in America was shaking their heads and asking themselves; ‘what in the hell is happening to our country. Three children on that stage failed to give anyone even a slight belief that they were ‘presidential.’
Personally, I am proud that Graham ‘told it like it is.’ Now if the media would be truthful to those who listen to and trust them.
Suggesting that any one of the three has one qualification to lead the free world is ludicrous.
