This Guarantees the Nomination for Donald Trump

NASCAR

Donald Trump will win the Republican nomination; this we now know for certain. He has been endorsed by a group of men and women who make left turns for a living. That’s right; Trump has received the support of NASCAR.

NASCAR President Brian France appeared with Trump in Georgia with two famous drivers and offered the endorsement. Trump responded in ‘Trump’ style.

“If the people that like and watch NASCAR vote for Donald Trump, they can cancel the election right now,” Trump said to cheers. “Nobody else can win. Nobody.”

I can understand NASCAR fans voting for Trump; these are his people. Their pastime is sitting in a noisy grandstand waiting for a serious accident. If they actually enjoy watching cars make left turns at high speed, I question their intellect. You might remember that George W. Bush was supported by NASCAR and claimed to be a fan.

“He wins with his family,” France said. “Any of his children, you’d be proud of have them as part of your family. That’s how I judge a winner, how somebody manages their family and raises their family.” Really?

By that standard I personally know hundreds of men and women who are very qualified to become the President of the United States; but those are not my standards.

I have very stringent requirements for the man or woman who receives my vote. Personally, the least important requirement is whether he or she has a family, is single, a member of the LGBT community, or goes to a church regularly. My candidate must have the experience and intellect to work with Congress and solve our domestic problems. I don’t believe that Trump has any of those abilities.

When the campaign season began in earnest last summer, I was entertained by the antics of ‘the Donald;’ I am no longer interested. After ten of what Republicans falsely called ‘debates,’ I have come to a simple and sad conclusion: the Republican Party is no more. None of the offerings from the GOP could be compared to true Republicans who served the American people in Washington. Making disparaging remarks about you opponents at a high-volume is not debating.

Trump may have the support of NASCAR, and even many of its fans, but he will not receive the votes of intelligent and well-informed citizens who take this election seriously.
