Let’s Give Every Person in America a Gun

Wayne LaPierre and the NRA gun lobby are right; let’s give everyone a gun. They have sought to move our nation backwards to the old west when the law meant whoever could shoot the straightest and the fastest. Every decision made in our country could become far easier if it was decided by the discharge of a lethal weapon.

If you witness someone in the ‘ten items or less’ lane in your grocery store who has a full cart of items, simply shoot them. If you are cut off in traffic, shooting the a**hole who violated your space would prevent him or her from doing it again. When a politician says something you disagree with at a rally, blow his brains out. Your child will never be bullied in school because he will be armed and can defend himself. An argument between you and a neighbor would be easily solved with a gun. There would be no divorce; a simple pulling of a trigger would dissolve the relationship.

If this sounds ridiculous, it is not. Every day innocent Americans are murdered by the use of a gun; 3,000 every month.

Here is another example of how guns ruin lives.

In Nashville, Tennessee, a state which believes that possession of a gun is not only their right, but a duty, three family members were shot by a teenager.

“There was a quarrel about getting up and getting ready for the day when (at some point) the 16-year-old ran to a closet, got a 9 mm handgun and started firing,” said Kris Mumford, Nashville police spokeswoman.

Fortunately, no one died, but wounded were the 16-year-old’s 67-year-old grandmother, his 12-year-old sister and a 6-year-old nephew.

The NRA is celebrating the teenager’s choice. He was angry, and therefore the use of a gun, in support of his second amendment rights, was justified. Guns solve problems and thin the herd.

Each year in the United States, eight times the number of lives lost in Iraq are taken by the use of guns. You will never hear these statistics from the media; they don’t want you to know the truth. No longer are facts reported for fear of offending advertisers.

The NRA wants the American people to believe two things; you must own a gun to protect yourself and your family; and President Obama wants to take away your second amendment rights. Both ideas are far from the truth.

Innocent people are in danger from those who obtain weapons of mass destruction for the purpose of killing men, women, and children. Even those on the ‘no fly list’ are allowed to purchase guns.

The second amendment is not definitive. It offers no restriction for mandating protection for the many vs. the so-called rights of the few. Not one American who advocates changes in our laws to protect innocent people wants to void the second amendment.

The NRA is not a gun rights organization; it is a lobby funded by gun manufacturers and gun sellers. Its sole purpose is to buy the votes of the right wing and prevent open sale of all types of lethal weapons to anyone, including the mentally ill and homegrown terrorists.

It’s time to end the insanity.
