Conservatives are an Illusion

Bush 41

I am a little tired of hearing the GOP candidates talk about conservativism. They constantly accuse Donald Trump and others of ‘not being conservative enough.’ Let’s dispel this falsehood for once and for all.

Conservative: “Tending to emphasize the importance of personal responsibility and traditional values and to oppose depending on government for social services.” According to this definition, Donald Trump is a conservative. So what are Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio? They are “reactionaries.” “A person who is opposed to political or social change or new ideas.” These two men would move our nation into the past and destroy advances made for the working class in the previous 60 years. They oppose women’s rights; the rights of the LGBT community; respect for the plight of minorities; and would take our nation back to the ideas supported by the homegrown terrorists such as the “KKK.”

The truth is that there must be a balance between true conservatives and progressives. When one party refuses to deliberate and compromise, nothing can be accomplished.

So it should be no surprise that Ted Cruz won the straw poll at CPAC. These are not true conservatives, they are a group of radicals who would destroy any part of our Constitution they don’t agree with, and increase income inequality and therefore poverty for the majority.

This is a complete explanation regarding the failure of our nation’s government. No nation can survive if extremists move government too far to the right or the left. Compromise is mandatory.

Although Cruz did receive 30 percent of the straw poll, Trump, who has been accused of not being a conservative in any manner, won 15 percent.

Tomorrow Michigan will hold its primary; Trump leads in the polls by 19 points over Cruz, while Rubio trails by nearly 26. Also on Tuesday will be the Mississippi primary where Trump leads Cruz by 24 points and Rubio by 25.

Here’s the present scenario, not ‘hyped’ by the media.

Only two primaries will be the focus of every politico; Ohio and Florida. Both will be held on the 15th; a week from tomorrow. Although John Kasich is Ohio’s governor, Trump is ahead in the polls by five percent; and ten percent over Cruz. If Kasich loses his own state, he must end his campaign.

In Marco Rubio’s home state of Florida, he is currently behind Trump by nearly 19 points; Cruz is a distant third losing by nearly 32 points.

Although polls are frequently inaccurate, if they are remotely prophetic in these two cases, only Cruz and Trump will remain after next Tuesday.

What will be left is not good for the Republican Party. Neither man can truly campaign under its banner. Trump and Cruz both deny the Constitution in slightly different ways.

Trump lacks the beliefs, ideals, and principles of our founding fathers. He does not believe in compassion, equality, and liberty for all of our nation’s people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or religious preference.

Cruz denounced the middle class and ignores poverty. His intent to support the one-percent is contrary to our forefather’s intentions. He would violate the first amendment by forcing all Americans to be Christian.

There are few in the right wing who believe in the true value of conservatism. The last Republican president to practice the party’s beliefs was George H.W. Bush who worked with progressives to make our nation a better place for all Americans.
