This may be the biggest lie ever told by the right wing; it was told by Speaker of the House Paul Ryan:
“This party does not prey on people’s prejudices. We appeal to their highest ideals. This is the Party of Lincoln,” Ryan told reporters. Really?
First of all, let’s debunk the biggest lie of all; today’s Republican Party is not the party of Lincoln. Lincoln would be a Democrat today. Today’s “Republicans” continue their efforts to remove the advances made during the civil rights era in the 1960’s. Red states are enacting voting laws which would make it more difficult for blacks and other minorities to cast their ballots. They are attempting to defund Planned Parenthood; and agency which has aided tens of thousands of poor women, mostly minorities.
“When I see something that runs counter to who we are as a party and a country I will speak up. So today I want to be very clear about something: If a person wants to be the nominee of the Republican Party there can be no evasion and no games. They must reject any group or cause that is built on bigotry,” Ryan said.
Ryan wouldn’t know the truth if it fell on him in the gym. Every piece of legislature which would have positively affected minorities, the LGBT community, the poor, or women, has received ‘no’ votes from Republicans. If this doesn’t display the fact that Donald Trump is the party’s leader as he openly displays his bigotry, I don’t know what would.
Ryan’s statements, which were joined by the worst Senate Majority in our nation’s history, Mitch McConnell, are a thinly veiled attempt to derail Trump. Because he failed to adamantly denounce David Duke and support from the KKK, they believe they have an issue.
The truth is that Ryan does not mean a single word in his statements to the press. He is a member of the most extreme party our nation has ever experienced. It is built on the support of wealthy, white Americans who claim to be Christians. They fail to serve the great majority of the American people.
No more ‘conservatives’ or ‘progressives’ in Washington; we need a few “Americans” in office.
