One thing today’s Republican Party can’t handle is the truth. If anyone ever doubted that fact previously, the 2016 campaign season has revealed the undeniable facts. When the candidates actually campaign, and refrain from attacking each other, which is less than five-percent of the time, they address their remarks toward President Obama and Hillary Clinton.
Republicans fear facts, but the President has decided to praise his administration for its accomplishments, completely denied by the GOP.
“They occupy a different reality it seems. According to them, everything was really good in 2008 when were going through the worst economic crisis in our lifetimes,” Obama said. “Unemployment and uninsured rates were up, we were hopelessly addicted to foreign oil, Bin Laden was still on the loose. This was apparently the golden age that I messed up.”
Republicans would be pleased if the American people would ignore the facts of eight years of George W. Bush’s failure.
All of the facts surrounding the tragedy of 9/11, and the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq have now been revealed to the public. Warnings of an impending attack were ignored, and claims of weapons of mass destruction were falsified. Thousands of lives were lost, and our nation suffered its greatest recession since the great depression of 1929. A rash decision to invade Iraq destabilized the region, and allowed the creation of ISIS and the growth of Iranian influence.
Problems in our nation remain, and some are new. Unemployment is acceptable, partly because many, including myself, ended their search for a decent job. The greatest problem for the American people is that wages have declined. The middle class is diminishing and the result is an increase in the numbers of those living in poverty as income inequality continues to widen. The GOP continues to ignore legislation which would aid the majority, and supports special interests whose only goal is increased profits.
Trump or Cruz would be a disaster for the working class. In addition, the Senate must return to Democratic control and counter the obstructionist tactics of Mitch McConnell.
It’s time for government to address real problems facing real people. The wealthy are doing just fine.
