The Republican Party has been radicalized. It began in 2008, and escalated in 2010 with the rise of the TEA Party. Past Republican ‘heroes’ would not be electable today; they were far too moderate. Yes, this includes the GOP demagogue, Ronald Reagan. Before her death Nancy Reagan told her daughter that President Reagan would be ashamed of today’s presidential wannabees.
However, it is interesting that Donald Trump and Reagan share one commonality; both of them experienced Republican leadership’s rejection. In his first campaign, Reagan was feared by the GOP elite. Now, although his second term was seriously flawed, he is the hero of the modern Republican Party.
Joe Biden: “I don’t think you’ll find anyone who’ll challenge what I am about to say: if Ronald Reagan were alive today, seeking the nomination, he could no more get the nomination of the Republican Party than I can get the nomination. I’m not joking,” the vice president said at Emirates Tower in Dubai. “What you see is this movement to the extreme in the Republican Party.”
The vice president also said the U.S. is “reaping the downside of what has become a nasty political environment” and described American politics as “petty and venal.”
He is entirely correct according to my evaluation. Trump has become the reward for years of failed and regressive Republican leadership.
Tonight’s results in Mississippi and Michigan are definitive. Trump won among every demographic Cruz and Rubio believe supported them. He is the most probable nominee for the GOP. It matters little that the establishment denounces him; the people have spoken.
A small amount of reality will not be reported by the media, and certainly not by Republican leadership. Those previously elected by right wing voters are now denounced by those same supporters. The GOP is rightfully being blamed for the failure of our government to perform the jobs for which they were elected.
“There’s been a lot of damaging and incredibly inaccurate rhetoric and I would argue I felt almost obliged to apologize for some of what my political colleagues have said,” Biden said in a news conference with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.
Vice-President Biden is only speaking the truth. Republicans have become an embarrassment to the American people, and do not represent the sentiment of the majority.
The truth is more upsetting than what we see on the surface. The GOP has become a group of ambitious, self-serving individuals who do not seek office to serve the people. Special interests receive preference over those who elected them.
No longer can Republicans be called ‘public servants.’ Their refusal to deliberate and compromise have forced the failure of our political system.
Disagreement is healthy, but only if the debate stays on topic, and both parties sincerely seek an equitable solution. Personal attacks are not only destructive to the process; they are ignorant.
Throughout 11 faux-debates, Republicans have failed to participate in discussions regarding the issues. No one knows where Cruz or Rubio stand on the issues.
There are few remaining Republicans in the GOP; sadly, none of them are vying for the presidency.
