Today Ohio and Florida are crucial; not for Trump, but for the future of the Republican Party. Only a victory for John Kasich in Ohio, and Marco Rubio in Florida can give the Republican establishment hope of retaining their party; the elephant is on the ropes.
Both Ohio and Florida are ‘winner take all’ states.
Kasich currently maintains a small lead in the polls, but Rubio is behind by more than seventeen. Ohio has 66 delegates for the winner; Florida has 99. The other three states will be divided between winning candidates, not all will be awarded to the man in first place.
Only Cruz is within striking distance of Trump, and he cannot gain enough ground today to catch the party’s leader.
In truth, none of this is important in the world of American politics. The RNC has spent millions of dollars releasing ads which have attempted to derail Trump in the primary states. This has been the greatest failure by the Republican Party in history. All of the efforts, led by Republican National Committee Chairman, Reince Priebus, have only driven Trump’s numbers up in the polls.
The future of the Republican Party is written in stone. If Trump is allowed to receive the party’s nomination, the party loses. If it is taken away from him, the party loses.
The culmination of seven-and-one-half years of Republican failure to address the needs of the majority have resulted in the rise of a man who represents not only the worst of the Republican Party, but also the evils which remain in our nation.
Trump and his supporters are representative of those who would destroy all that was once admirable about our nation and its people. It took 60 years for our country to mature, and in less than one year it has devolved into adolescence.
Sadly, for lifelong supporters of the Republican Party, is has not existed for many years. The last true Republican who held our nation’s highest office was George H.W. Bush. He worked with both Democrats and Republicans to pass legislation for the majority including the American with Disabilities Act, and additional funding for child care. His policies were policies which positively affected all Americans.
Today’s Pretend-Republicans have not demonstrated that they support any of the principles of the leaders in their past. Dwight Eisenhower and Ronald Reagan would not be considered conservative enough today, and would be rejected by the Republican establishment. They were moderates who were wise enough to know that no single party had a monopoly regarding the future of the American people.
The results of today’s primaries will be interesting, but have little consequence about the future of American politics.
If Trump loses, the Party loses; if Trump wins, we all lose.
