As an Independent, I never had a great deal of respect for Lindsey Graham or Mitt Romney. However, I did believe that they were remnants of the once Grand Old Party and held dear many of the principles of great Republicans in the past. I believed that they denounced the extremism which has ruined their party and revered great men such as George H.W. Bush, and even farther in the past Barry Goldwater and Dwight D. Eisenhower. Sadly, these three men would be considered too moderate, or ‘not conservative enough’ to be supported by today’s faux-Republicans.
Today Graham and Romney endorsed Ted Cruz, the most hated man in the Senate. This is how low the Republican Party has fallen. This is all about defeating Donald Trump ‘for the future of the GOP.’
Reality proves that this is bullshit. The Republican establishment continues to ignore their voting public. Trump’s success is a direct attack upon the leadership of the Republican Party. They don’t want obstructionists such as Cruz. This support of the leader of the TEA Party completely guarantees the end of a once great party. They will lose 40 percent of their voters if Trump is railroaded out of an opportunity to receive the party’s nomination.
Anticipated riots outside of the Republican convention may pale in comparison to the fury inside of Quicken Loans Arena in July.
There was a time when I praised many Republican leaders; not today. They have no intelligence and no understanding about their loyal supporters. For years, voters blindly marked an “X” next to any Republican on the ballot. That will not happen in 2016. With its present strategy, the party cannot be healed. The majority of GOP supporters do not want to hear from past failures such as Romney, McCain, Graham, Boehner, McConnell, or RNC Chairman Reince Priebus. They don’t care if the biggest failure as Speaker of the House John Boehner supports John Kasich. It doesn’t matter to them if little Marco Rubio endorses a fellow member of the TEA Party. Pun intended; the party’s over.
The Republican establishment doesn’t see it as I do; they are living in a fantasy world. Their party no longer exists. Their strategy to remove Trump from succeeding in his goal of obtaining the Republican nomination is a failure, whether it is given to him or not. They have alienated nearly 50 percent of their voters before the July convention.
In the most desperate attempt in history to control their party, they have reduced their dignity to a level where they will now support the man they hated most, and who is now holding office in Washington. No one wanted Cruz to represent the GOP, but ‘party before country is their only goal.
The truth is that he does not represent the Republican Party of old. He and Trump are symbols of the ‘new Republican Party;’ a group of ambitious men and women who seek election not to serve the people, but to attain their own ambitions. Most are paid for by lobbyists and other special interests; they seek the destruction of our Constitution; and they will lie and use any tactic available to receive public housing in Washington’s most prominent residence.
Shame on the Republican Party. You are no better than the con artist who preys on the elderly. You are televangelists; you promise heaven, but in reality offer hell on earth to those blindly offer their support.
