There are many reasons why Marco Rubio failed in his attempt to secure the Republican Party’s presidential nomination. Most of the reasons must be placed directly on the young Senator from Florida. He was a ‘casual’ campaigner who failed to inspire voters. He was crushed in several debate performances. To this day we don’t know where he stands on any domestic issues with the exception of increasing defense spending. When he attempted to be Donald Trump, he simply made a fool of himself, and guaranteed the demise of his weak campaign.
Rubio doesn’t see it that way. In true Republican fashion, he denies his responsibility and places it elsewhere.
“This election was entirely driven by national media coverage, in many ways,” Rubio said, in audio of the conference call obtained by the Pioneer Press. “When the media narrative goes negative on you, and all the news is bad, it kind of knocks us off.” Really?
The campaign season began with 17 passengers in the clown car. Most were filled with false hopes, and eventually recognized the truth and suspended their failing campaigns. From the beginning Rubio failed to impress the Republican electorate. He can attempt to pass his failures onto the media, but the truth is that from the beginning he failed to offer voters any reason why they should cast their ballots for him.
I am no fan of the media, and the only credence I will give to Rubio’s pitiful excuse is the excessive coverage of Donald Trump’s outrageous ‘dark comedy’ acts. The Trump campaign received five-times more attention than any other candidate.
I know a lot about the media, and I know that the reason Rubio failed to receive the attention he sought is because he was boring and lacked charisma. In addition, he had nothing to say; his speeches were filled with generalities and vague references to our nation’s problems without offering solutions.
If the truth has any value to Rubio and the Republican Party, the Senator was treated favorably by the media unless he gave them a reason not to, such as his ‘small hands gaff.’
