True Republicans Valued Immigration Reform

Reagan

Today’s Republicans are an illusion. They do not represent the leaders of the past who assisted in making our nation great. A very important issue facing our nation today is the fate of nearly twelve million undocumented workers. If this was 1980, there would be no problem, and the solution would have come from the right side of the aisle.

In a 1980 debate between George H.W. Bush, and Ronald Reagan, they agreed on one issue; undocumented residents from Mexico offered value to our nation, and should be allowed to find a way to establish legal residence. Both true Republicans agreed that families should not be separated.

When I claim that those who call themselves ‘Republicans’ today are in fact not representative of the GOP, it’s easy to offer proof. If anyone can truthfully tell me that Donald Trump or Ted Cruz have any similarity to Reagan or Bush in the 1980’s, they’d better offer actual documentation supporting their belief; it’s not available.

“I believe in the idea of amnesty for those who have put down roots and lived here, even though some time back they may have entered illegally.” Ronald Reagan

“I’d like to see something done about the illegal alien problem that would be so sensitive, and so understanding about labor needs, and human needs, that that problem wouldn’t come up. But today, if those people are here, I would reluctantly say they would get whatever it is, what society is giving their neighbors. But the problem has to be solved … We’re creating a whole society of really honorable, decent, family-loving people that are in violation of the law, and secondly we’re exacerbating relations with Mexico. The answer to your question is much more fundamental than whether they attend Houston schools, it seems to me. I don’t want to see … six- and eight-year-old kids, being made, you know, one, totally uneducated, and being made to feel that they’re living outside the law. Let’s address ourselves to the fundamentals. These are good people, strong people. Part of my family is a Mexican.” George H.W. Bush.

As presidents both Reagan and Bush used the privilege of an executive order to grant amnesty to thousands of undocumented workers.

Lies are the tactic best uses by today’s faux-Republicans. They claim that President Obama is abusing his powers when he decreed that he would not divide families and give legal resident status to parents of children born in the United States. The precedent came from two Republican presidents.

As long as lobbyists are allowed to purchase votes from our legislators, we will not have an honest government which serves all of the American people. As long as one party is owned by the one-percent, all legislation will be directed towards the wealthy, and designed to aid them in the growth of profits.

Immigration reform has been rejected by the GOP for one reason. Big businesses employs millions of undocumented workers. If they become legal residents, these businesses will be forced to pay minimum wage and contribute to social security and Medicare; it might cost them one-tenth of one-percent of their profit margin.

Real Republicans would place people first, but they no longer exist. Loyal Republicans must thank Trump for aiding in the implosion of the GOP. What remains will be far better than what now exists.
