A New York Times/CBS News national poll released yesterday, revealed that Republican primary voters are ashamed of their party’s candidates, and the level of negativity displayed by the presidential wannabees. They are fully aware of the division within the GOP and fear that it is irreparable.
Trump’s rallies are filled with anger and hate, and violence has invaded what should have been a peaceful event. Trump is responsible for every incident. He encourages physical attacks by his supporters against those who disagree with his disgusting nonsense, as he seeks the destruction of our Constitution.
I am extremely disappointed in his supporters, who agree with his anti-American rhetoric and his attempts to deny human rights and freedom for all Americans. I am aware that they are voicing their opposition to the past 10 years of Republican failure and its responsibility for the destruction of our Democratic Republic, but condoning violence is unforgiveable.
I cannot eliminate Ted Cruz from this discussion. He fails to support true Republican principles, and in no way represents former great GOP leaders. His only concern is to win the party’s nomination. If he receives victory in November, he would institute TEA Part philosophy and completely destroy a once functioning legislature. He would likely deport all Muslims, and Hispanics, while attempting to force all Americans to become Christians.
He is ignoring the fact that 56 million Americans claim that they have no affiliation with any religion; the fastest growing demographic is atheists, as evidenced by younger American’s views regarding religion. The second largest group growing in prominence are Muslim converts.
I am proud to be a true Independent; I am pleased to take the side of the man or woman running for office who is the most qualified and represents my views. In this situation, I join my friends who are true Republicans, and find nothing but disrespect and disdain for Donald Trump and Ted Cruz. If this is the best the Republican Party has to offer its supporters, then the GOP is truly defunct.
It is time for a change; change within the party itself. Republicans need true leadership, and candidates running for office must be forward thinking, and disavow extremism.
Our government will remain dysfunctional until both parties once again agree to deliberate our nation’s problems and find a compromise which best serves all of the American people.
Ashamed is not a strong enough word. We should all be appalled and direct our displeasure towards those who deserve it. Trump and Cruz do not represent most Americans, and are in opposition to the American way of life; the country and attitude which raised me, and once made me proud to sing our National Anthem, and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Sadly, the latter’s words have no meaning in today’s America.
