Supreme Court is Dysfunctional, and Conservatives Are Paying

McConnell

“If you’re not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.” This old ‘saying’ is nearly always the truth. Mitch McConnell’s obstructionist tactics in the Senate have proven that he is always the problem. His effort to keep the Supreme Court a dysfunctional branch of our government for the next year has backfired and is affecting conservatives.

It appears that the Court will be split on a case brought before the court by a Christian group. They oppose a part of the Affordable Care Act which requires employers to cover the cost of contraception for female workers. Four justices considered liberal will stand against the issue, and four conservatives will vote in favor of the religious group.

So, what happens? The same thing which may happen several more times as long as the court has only eight justices. The decision of a lower-court will stand. In this case, a decision to reject the complaints of this Christian group, claiming that the law opposes their religious beliefs by ordering them to supply contraception, will remain in effect.

I oppose this group because once again religion is invading our laws and violating the Constitutional rights of others.

Progressives must thank McConnell; his promise not to hold hearings for any justice nominated by President Obama until after the November election made this possible, exactly as I predicted.

Congress is broken, and now we will have another branch of our government unable to perform the function for which it was created. Thank you, Mitch, you are the problem, and definitely not a solution.
