If Cruz Loses in Wisconsin, he must Join Rubio

Ted

A week from Tuesday Wisconsin will hold its Republican primary. This is virtually a ‘make it or break it’ event for Ted Cruz. If he loses another Midwestern state, his campaign will become futile.

Cruz now has the backing of the Republican establishment. Although they have voiced opinions in the past which have been damaging to the junior Senator from Texas, to the point of becoming slanderous, they now believe that he is their choice. Really?

Polls slanted towards the establishment claim that Cruz is leading in the Wisconsin polls; that is untrue. Real Clear Politics averages all available polls, and reveals that Trump continues to lead by five points.

I believe that Republican leadership is making a huge mistake. They are denying the wishes of their supporters, and guaranteeing a convention which will be far more damaging to the party than 12 of the 13 faux-debates. Their ego, believing that they can order Republican voters to cast their ballots for a chosen candidate, is foolhardy. It is highly likely that the protests inside of Quicken Loans Arena will be more numerous and more vocal than those outside.

As an Independent, I am convinced of only one thing; I could never vote for either one of the GOP candidates. I vote my conscience, based on a careful evaluation of his or her experience, ability, and position on the most important issues. Neither Cruz or Trump qualify.

If Cruz fails to win Wisconsin, his defeat will not only end his bid for the White House, it will guarantee that the Republican establishment has failed, and must resign from the party’s leadership. For more than seven years, Reince Priebus and his cronies have been ineffectual, and allowed the creation of Donald Trump, and the impending implosion of the GOP.

The rivalry between Trump and Cruz has reached levels lower than I believed possible. They have begun attacks on each other’s wives; really. Neither appears to be even slightly presidential.

Now comes a new attack on Cruz from the National Enquirer. It claims that he has had five affairs, although two of the women mentioned in the article have denied the tabloid’s claim.

Cruz is defending himself. “It is complete and utter lies. It is a tabloid smear. And it is a smear that has come from Donald Trump and his henchmen,” said Cruz, adding that “years from now, when my daughters Google this, they will read these lies.”

Did it come from Trump? We may never know. What we do know is that both of these men are liars and ambitious; they would do anything to live in the White House.

If Trump does win in Wisconsin, even with millions of dollars spent by the Republican establishment and its wealthy owners creating ads to defeat him, he will amass 1,237 delegates and win the nomination in the next few months.

Not only will this be the end of Ted Cruz, it will signal the end of the modern Republican Party.
