Last night’s ‘Real Time with Bill Maher’ once again revealed my love/hate relationship with the comedian’s show. He proved me right as he once again joined Donald Trump and Ted Cruz in his accusations that all Muslims are evil. More importantly, he has been fooled into believing that Cruz is a better candidate than Trump. He obviously is unaware of Cruz’ record in the Senate, and his views of America.
Being a comedian, he should be fully aware that Trump is putting on a show; he doesn’t mean most of his own vile rhetoric, but if it excites his crowd, he will say anything. Cruz’ destructive efforts in the Senate would continue from the Oval Office. Our government would be permanently broken. He would make an effort to alter the first amendment, forcing all of the American people to practice Christianity.
Maher would be pleased with Cruz’ declaration of a war on Islam. His national security advisors are composed of some of our nation’s biggest Islamophobes. Not only would he refuse to allow Muslims entrance into our nation, he would place all three million living in the United States under government surveillance.
Within his first 90 days in office America would become involved in another unwinnable war in the Middle East. ISIS recruitment numbers would increase. America would become isolated from other developed nations, and hated in the Arab world. Israel would accelerate its ‘land grabbing’ in the west bank, and another war in the Middle East would only be a matter of time.
When Maher makes a statement, he must have his facts straight, and he must read the Bill of Rights. Our nation will never be great again if fear, hatred, and prejudice dominate our society.
