North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory supports a new state law which prohibits local governments from passing anti-discrimination laws. He is mixing religion with politics and wants to allow businesses to refuse service to the LGBT community. In addition, transgender men and women will be forced to use restrooms according to the sexual definition on their birth certificates. As a Republican governor once again proves that they are the party of racists and bigots, corporations are not happy with this law, including American Airlines, Biogen, and PayPal.
McCrory was arrogant enough to have signed the bill into law in spite of these objections. North Carolina will likely suffer enormous economic repercussions.
The NCAA is scheduled to hold tournament games in Greensboro in 2017, and Charlotte in 2018. It issued a statement in which it supports diversity.
“Our commitment to the fair treatment of all individuals, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity, has not changed and is at the core of our NCAA values,” the organization’s statement said. “It is our expectation that all people will be welcomed and treated with respect in cities that host our NCAA championships and events.”
ESPN has been considering Charlotte as a home for its Summer X games said:
“At ESPN, we embrace diversity and inclusion and will evaluate all of our options as we seek a new city for the X Games.”
The NBA selected Charlotte for its 2017 All-Star game, but that may change.
“The NBA is dedicated to creating an inclusive environment for all who attend our games and events,” the league’s statement read. “We are deeply concerned that this discriminatory law runs counter to our guiding principles of equality and mutual respect and do not yet know what impact it will have on our ability to successfully host the 2017 All-Star Game in Charlotte.”
This state law also prohibits local governments from passing rules which would force businesses to pay more than minimum wage, which stands at $7.25 per hour. North Carolina loves poverty.
McCrory, who was the mayor of Charlotte for 14 years, said the new law was “passed by a bipartisan majority to stop this breach of basic privacy and etiquette.” More lies by a Republican governor. All Democratic senators refused to address the bill and walked out of the senate chamber.
When will Republican voters learn that voting for someone solely based on the letter ‘R’ next to their name is foolhardy and even dangerous to yourself, your state, and the nation?
I have asked the question for most of my 70 years; why are Americans homophobic? The LGBT community doesn’t seek to infringe upon your life, why do you want to be involved in theirs? They are Americans, just like you, and should have the same Constitutional rights as you. If it’s religion-based, then that religion is wrong. There is nothing in the bible where God talks directly about sexual preference; your minister has made this up.
McCrory, Bentley, Hutchinson, Scott, Deal, Pence, Brownback, Snyder, Walker, and other Republican governors are a danger to the American way of life. A country cannot exist if it lacks principles and morality. Allowing religion to influence political decisions is not only unconstitutional, it is abhorrent. Very few of our influential founding fathers were religious. They would fight to the death to protect the rights of individuals to practice the faith of their choice, but firmly believe it should not interfere with government.
Republican governors in general have proven to be detrimental to the quality of life in their states. Here in Nevada, we are fortunate to have a GOP governor who places the people of his state ahead of politics. Brian Sandoval has surpassed any expectations I had before his first election.
The exception once again proves the rule.
