For more than seven years Mitch McConnell has offered nothing to the American people. He has displayed a severe lack of intellect as he led his party with tactics of obstructionism. Make no mistake about it, he is lying to the American People regarding the reasons he refuses to hold hearings to fill the vacant seat on the Supreme Court.
But cheer up, real Republicans, there is a voice for reason in your party, and she is highly respected, unlike McConnell.
Susan Collins is a Senator from Maine. She is confused by McConnell’s decision. She joins a growing number of Republican Senators who would prefer to vet Merrick Garland for the Court.
“Let’s say that Hillary Clinton is the next president of the United States. I personally believe that she would be likely to choose a nominee who is to the left of Judge Garland. I know Senator McConnell cares deeply about the balance of the court…. If the next president is a Democrat, then the balance could be tipped way further than Judge Garland, based on what I know about him so far.
“If the nominee is Mr. Trump, and he becomes the next president, who knows who his nominee would be. He’s rather unpredictable. So, I’m not quite sure what [McConnell’s] thinking is, but it’s clearly one that he believes strongly in. And, as he says, it’s the principle, not the person. To me, the person makes all the difference.”
She stated that she knows McConnell is ‘not very happy with her.’ Her intelligent response is to be noted by anyone who believes in Republican principles and ideals.
Senator Collins is aware that the Court cannot function if decisions result in a tie. This has already occurred, and resulted in the Court becoming a dysfunctional branch of our government.
McConnell and John Boehner were the two biggest reasons why our government was rendered a failure. They were more interested in supporting the extremists in their party than serving the needs of the American people.
I doubt that McConnell will listen to his constituents; he is far too stubborn and lacks sufficient intellect to do the right thing.
The people of Kentucky should remove him from office; McConnell is bad for America and bad for his party.
