Judson Phillips wrote an article in that rag called the ‘Washington Times’ Friday. He claims that Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is a conservative hero. Really? He claims that McConnell is protecting the right wing from liberal bias on the Supreme Court? As with most supporters of the Republican Party, he is in denial of the fact that Scalia was the most extreme member of the Court and made his rulings for conservative position 100 percent of the time.
Here’s what McConnell is; he is the third worst senator in our government, behind Marco Rubio, who doesn’t work, and Ted Cruz, who is nothing but an obstructionist, and a tool of the Christian religious right.
For more than seven years McConnell has failed at his job description. His racist attitude led the Republican Party into virtual destruction. He promised that his party would do nothing immediately after President Obama’s inauguration in 2009. He said that the only purpose of the GOP was to insure that Mr. Obama was a one-term president.
He continues his obstructionist efforts by failing to give Merrick Garland a fair hearing for the vacancy on the Court. This action has forced the Court to be dysfunctional; ties have rendered no decision on several matters as I write this article.
McConnell is lazy, ignorant, and has failed the state of Kentucky and his country. He is a villain, not a hero. He is one of the prime reasons why our government is broken. Together with John Boehner, they led Congress into three ‘do nothing’ sessions, although in 2014 they promised to ‘get to work’ now that they controlled both houses of Congress. Full control simply guaranteed that the ‘party of no’ would be worse than in the previous two years.
Isn’t it time to stop playing political parties against one another? The American people deserve, and should demand, a government that works. McConnell and many others should be ousted from their seats; they have proven that they don’t deserve them.
We need a second strong and principled party; we don’t need those who call themselves Republicans, but in fact are not representative of or deserving of giving themselves that label. Republicans get things done; they don’t take taxpayer money for doing nothing.
