Wisconsin Becomes an Important State

Donald and Ted

If Wisconsin did not have one of the most villainous governors in the nation, no one would pay attention to the state, with the exception of two items; the Green Bay Packers, and today’s primaries.

The Democratic outcome is mostly irrelevant. It is a mathematical certainty that if Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders split all remaining contests, Clinton will win the nomination.

All the drama centers around Republicans. Today’s battle is not between Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and John Kasich; it is a battle between Donald Trump and the entire Republican establishment. GOP leadership has organized all of the right wing radio stations in Wisconsin, and sought appearances by well-known GOP members such as Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan.

This is a historic event, but not one to be proud of. Never before has the GOP not supported its front runner, and never before has the party united to defeat a single candidate. Sadly, this reveals a great deal about the Republican Party. First of all, it does not believe in democracy. Secondly, it has no concern for the wishes of GOP voters. Thirdly, it is proving to the American people that the party is of more importance than the people of our nation.

I have written a large amount of satire aimed at individual members of the Republican Party, and the Party as a whole; I fail to see any humor in the GOP today. The entire party is a travesty. If I believed in political parties, and had chosen to be a member of the GOP, I would be resigning at this very moment. As an American I am embarrassed by both Republican leadership and the two unqualified candidates.

It remains difficult for me to believe that from millions of Republicans, the once Grand Old Party could not find one candidate who was eligible to lead our nation.

Of course the truth is that the party has no leadership. If anyone believes that Reince Priebus, Mitch McConnell, Mitt Romney, Paul Ryan, or former Speaker John Boehner are or were effective in their positions, those individuals are living in an alternate universe.

If Trump loses badly in Wisconsin, a ‘brokered’ convention becomes very likely. This will insure that the establishment will select the party’s nominee; the voters will be discounted. Will that transfer to a low GOP voter turnout in November? Will Trump supporters remain loyal to the party, or will they abstain from the polls?

Regardless of what happens in Wisconsin, the Republican Party is irreparable. It is splitting into many factions, and unity is but a fairy tale.
