Did Trump Reveal True Republican Beliefs Regarding Abortion?

No one can deny that Donald Trump is wrong 90 percent of the time; but when he is right we must acknowledge that fact. When Trump said that if a woman secures an illegal abortion, she must be punished. This caused outrage not only from the left, but from fellow ‘Republicans.’ Right to life groups joined in “Trump-bashing.” But how does the party truly feel about Trump’s outrageous statement?

An article in the San Francisco Chronicle revealed that the facts are there.

“Laws in 38 states now allow a person to be charged with homicide if she or he is deemed responsible for the unlawful death of a fetus, writes Andrea Rowan, an analyst at the Guttmacher Institute, in a report released last fall.”

These are Republican supported laws, and reveal the party’s attitude towards women’s rights. These are laws based on Religious beliefs, and not the Constitution. They violate human rights, and the Law of the Land.

Many of these laws were enacted to force the defunding of Planned Parenthood. Here is the truth about an agency which has assisted tens of thousands of poor women with reproductive problems. Since 1976 no federal funds are used for abortion with the exception of incidences of rape or incest. The truth is that an attack on Planned Parenthood is an attack on poor women, who are primarily minorities.

Once again, Trump was speaking for his party. Continued denial by the Republican establishment will not change the facts; the GOP has been waging a war on women for the last decade.

Abortion should not be a political issue. If the Christian religious right lobby did not exist, there would be no public discussion about a woman’s right to choose what she does with her own body. These “in name only” Christians are attempting to pass laws which control the private and personal actions of individuals, and would violate the Constitution.

So, say and think what you will about Donald Trump; most of what you believe is likely to be true. But when he is speaking for the majority of his party, that, too, must be acknowledged.

The Republican Party is no longer a society of men and women who seek protection for individual rights, or less government. Today’s GOP is focused on hypocrisy; the complete control of personal freedom, and unwavering support for special interests.

Abortion will remain an alternative for thousands of women to an unwanted pregnancy, regardless of legal actions. This will never change. The focus on prosecution should be the Republican Party itself, and the Christian religious right, who want to force women to abide by their belief in fantasy.

By the way, nowhere in the Bible does Jesus Christ speak about abortion, homosexuality; nor is there an approval of racism and bigotry.
