Democracy Spring Protests Will Pale to those at GOP Convention

Quicken Loans Arena

The working class is becoming an angry crowd. We are tired of the ‘rich getting richer,’ as our quality of life diminishes. We are furious that politicians spend tens of millions of dollars on campaigns, and yet deny the majority social programs which better our lives. Make no mistake about it; this election will be about domestic issues and the focus will be financial equality and fairness.

A group calling itself ‘Democracy Spring,’ and Black Lives Matter, have joined forces in Washington.

The protests are in their third day, and there have been arrests. If law enforcement thinks this is a significant event, what will they do when Republicans hold their convention in Cleveland between July 18th and 21st?

Let’s begin with Flint, Michigan. Less than 250 miles separate the two cities. The mostly black residents of Flint have demanded the resignation of Republican Governor Rick Snyder because of his decision to reroute their fresh water supply. You know the rest of the story. There may be thousands of Flint residents outside of the convention.

Then there’s the Cleveland Police department which has been accused of more violations against black men and women than any other city in America. In November of 2014, a Cleveland police officer shot and called a young black man. Tamir Rice was 12-years-old. A man called law enforcement and informed them that someone was waving a gun in the air at a public park. The dispatcher was told that it was ‘probably a toy,’ and that the individual was ‘probably a juvenile.’ When two officers arrived, they pulled their guns from their holsters when Tamir took the pellet gun from his waistband. Officer Timothy Loehmann shot and killed Tamir, claiming that he ‘feared for his life.’ He was not prosecuted, and the nearly 150,000 black residents of Cleveland remain angry.

Now we can add other groups such as the ’99 percent.’ Income inequality is becoming a far more serious problem than Republicans would like you to believe. What about anti-war protesters? Both leading Republican candidates believe in engaging in another unwinnable war in the Middle East.

There are others, but I believe one rather large group will be supporters of Donald Trump.

It is obvious that Republican Party leadership will not allow Trump to receive the party’s presidential nomination. If you have viewed the violence at Trump’s rallies, what do you believe will happen when those outside of Quicken Loans Arena learn that the nomination has been gifted to someone else?

Write these dates down on your calendar; the convention will take place between July 18th and the 21st. The major networks and other faux-news networks such as FOX will be covering it live. I have but a single disappointment.

Over 50,000 Republicans had signed petitions to allow them to openly carry firearms inside the convention. As I sadly predicted, the Secret Service denied their request.

It may still be fun to watch; there will be a warning that ‘parental guidance’ is suggested, but the bloodshed I had expected to see will not happen; unless a brawl erupts between the several factions of Republicans who are in attendance. It is not likely that there will be deaths resulting from the punching, kicking, scratching and hair pulling. The only fatality will be the Republican Party itself.
