Let’s stop the discussion about the second amendment, and talk about the safety of innocent men, women and children. The NRA gun lobby is anti-American and criminal. Although it claims to be the NRA of old, it is far from it, just as the Republican Party is but a pretender to the GOP of the past.

Until the mid-1970’s the NRA was the nation’s greatest advocate for gun safety, and actually wrote most of our nation’s gun laws. Today, it is nothing but a lobby for gun manufacturers and gun sellers. It has no concern about the safety of the American people; it is the perfect example of ‘profit before people.’

The NRA has but a single goal; to sell as many weapons of mass destruction as possible. It will not be happy until every man, woman and child in America is “packing heat.”

The NRA has engaged in a battle now taking place in Alaska. The issue is a bill currently in the state legislature which would allow students attending the University of Alaska to carry concealed weapons on campus. This issue was also discussed here in Nevada during the last legislative session.

In support of the bill is the gun lobby. Its goal is to reform the United States into an armed camp. Although 33,000 innocent people die from gunshot wounds each year in America, the NRA will not be happy until that number is greatly increased.

This is simply another reason why the United States of America is no longer a great country. Ours is the only nation in the entire developed world which can be labeled ‘gun crazy.’

The Republican Party should be renamed the ‘Special Interest Protection Agency.’ It fails to represent the American people in lieu of those who contribute to their campaigns. The NRA is only one example of how the GOP is bought and paid for by big business.

Republicans denounce a change in gun laws, as well as climate change, the 14^th amendment, women’s rights, immigration reform, and affordable higher education; all issues which are important to the majority of the American people.

What is happening in Alaska will soon happen across the United States. Republican legislators have been ordered to increase gun sales in any manner possible.

It’s only a matter of time when the gun nuts decide that your elementary school children should carry weapons ‘for their own protection.’

Australia and other nations have proven the fact that the citizens of a nation are safer with fewer guns and not more. A change in their country’s gun laws has saved thousands of lives each year, and even gun owners are pleased.

We can no longer afford one political party and one lobby to deny the majority to receive sensible gun legislation, and make their lives safer.

The second amendment will, and must remain a part of our Constitution, but the types of gun laws sought be intelligent and thoughtful Americans will do no harm to the Law of the Land.

Do not allow the NRA to ‘bullshit’ you. We are the government, and we have the right to eliminate this criminalistic organization.
