Tom Taylor, Georgia, and more Republican Hypocrisy

Mark Sanford

Most of this article could be copied from past stories I have written about the corruption and hypocrisy of Republican legislators many times. They call themselves the ‘party of family values,’ and claim to be devout Christians; both are blatant lies.

Tom Taylor is a representative in the Georgia legislature; and of course he’s a Republican. This is a tale of what he believes are family values.

On April 7th, Taylor was pulled over by the police; he was observed driving his vehicle above the speed limit; he was doing 72 mph in a 45 mph zone. When the officer approached the SUV, he immediately observed three things; there were four minors in the vehicle, Taylor appeared to be intoxicated, and, being a good Georgia Republican, he had a gun on his hip.

He was arrested after refusing to take a field sobriety test. His alcohol level was .225; three times the legal limit. Taylor issued the following statement:

“I profoundly regret this serious mistake,” State Representative Tom Taylor (R-Dunwoody) said in a statement, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “There’s no one to blame but me, and I greatly appreciate the professionalism of the officers involved. This was my first run-in with the law in my life, and it will also be my last.”

Where have we heard this before; or should I say ‘how often’ have we heard this before?

Although he was severely impaired, had four minors in the SUV, had an open container, and was wearing a firearm, he will not receive what I believe would be just punishment. Under Georgia law, he will be fined, but no charges of child endangerment will be levied against Taylor; the officer ‘believed’ that the juveniles were at least 14 years of age, but less than 18.

Taylor is seeking reelection in November. Republican voters have proven in the past that no matter how many crimes are committed by a GOP politician, they still deserve to retain public office. Hypocrites, one and all. You don’t believe me? Does anyone remember Mark Sanford?

When he was governor of South Carolina, he took a vacation. He told his family that he was going to hike the ‘Appalachian Trail.’ What he was actually doing was using tax payer money to visit his mistress in South America.

Although he was ostracized by his wife and family, voters forgave him. Sanford is now a member of the United States House of Representatives, once again elected by the GOP voters of South Carolina.

So don’t worry, Mr. Taylor, you will most certainly be reelected, even if you receive another DWI. Heck, because you’re a Republican, you could most likely be reelected if you killed someone while driving drunk. GOP voters do not believe in voting for respectable candidates; all they need is an “R” next to their name.
