Ted Cruz and John Kasich know that they have absolutely no chance of accumulating the 1,237 delegates needed to guarantee their party’s nomination before the convention in July. Their only chance will be a contested convention if Donald Trump fails to receive the required number of delegates. In the most desperate move to date, the two failed challengers have joined forces. They are hoping that voters will support each other in their strongest states.
This is an historical event; and is a blight on our political system. This simply adds to the proof that the Republican Party is over. The GOP no longer believes in democracy and the will of the people. After it loses badly in November, former Republican loyalists will be searching for a new party to support. Of course my hope is that they become patriotic Americans and choose to be Independents.
Cruz’ Campaign Manager Jeff Roe issued the following statement:
“To ensure that we nominate a Republican who can unify the Republican Party and win in November, our campaign will focus its time and resources in Indiana and in turn clear the path for Gov. Kasich to compete in Oregon and New Mexico.”
This statement makes no sense; it is simply a fantasy. Cruz has been the most divisive individual in the Republican Party; they literally hate him. The other lie is that he can win in November. Obviously Roe doesn’t look at the polls.
Trump’s response: “Wow, just announced that Lyin’ Ted and Kasich are going to collude in order to keep me from getting the Republican nomination. DESPERATION!” Trump wrote Sunday night.
The rumor is that the Republican establishment is preparing to select Carly Fiorina as their candidate. Really? I guess in a strange way it makes sense. Fiorina was fired from Hewlett Packard, so she decided to run for a seat in the Senate from California; she lost. So why not step up and lose the presidency; that would be the greatest loss of all; the ultimate for Fiorina.
What a mess! The Republican Party is an embarrassment. When it began its implosion in 2009, none of us could have predicted what is happening today.
Tomorrow’s primary results will have little meaning. Hillary Clinton is in control of the Democratic Party’s nomination. Trump will win the most delegates, but remain short of the needed 1,237. A ‘brokered,’ or contested convention is all but a guarantee.
The circus will be held over until July; but not by the choice of voters.
