Either Chris Christie was never a young college student, or else he has simply become a judgmental old fart. Although he is now an insignificant figure in politics, he continues to shoot his mouth off when nobody asked for his opinion. He was not discussing politics in his last tirade; the subject was the NFL Draft, which is in progress this week.

Laremy Tunsil played for “Old Miss” in college. He was drafted by the Miami Dolphins Thursday evening in the middle of the first round, but had been expected to be an earlier choice. Just before the offensive lineman, considered the best in the nation, was drafted, someone released a video of the young man in an attempt to discredit him and harm his draft status. He was seen with a gas mask on his face while inhaling from a ‘bong.’

Another report said that he had taken money from his coach. Both situations were obviously released to make NFL teams unsure of his character and reliability. None of the sports announcers spoke harshly of the young man, but the judgmental Christie was not as kind.

“It’s unbelievable,” Christie said. “Because the bong hits aren’t enough. Give me the gas mask too … It’s incredible. I can’t take my eyes off it. It’s unbelievable.”

Though the night took an unfortunate turn for Tunsil, he’s at least lucky that Christie isn’t a prosecutor.

“When I was a prosecutor, I would’ve gone in and cuffed this guy,” Christie said. “I would’ve been all over it.”

When will our nation grow up and end the criminalization which is attached to smoking pot? I didn’t hear Christie saying anything about Ethan Couch, the rich teenager who received minor punishment for killing four people while driving drunk. Of course he was white.

I’m not certain whether or not Christie is a racist, but his remarks were out of line; Tunsil’s “crime” was victimless.

The right wing is first to criticize actions they view as illegal or immoral, but they have many hypocrites in their midst such as Dick Cheney, Newt Gingrich, and Dennis Hastert. They are always the ones to ‘throw the first stones.’

They never apologize for false accusations. When an anti-abortion group falsified videos regarding the alleged selling of fetal organs, not one Republican attacked the group. Prior to the revelation that the videos were manufactured, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Christie, and others vehemently attacked Planned Parenthood. Cruz attempted to shut down the government, again, if Congress failed to defund the women’s health organization.

Before speaking harsh words or taking rash action, Republicans must make sure that they have all of the facts. Words can be harmful, and hasty decisions can lead to costly wars.

Christie must fade away from public view as other failed Republicans have done before him.
