The one thing the Republican Party has plenty of is hypocrisy. All of their politicians vacillate according to the situation, rather than support the truth.
Remember how John Boehner and Mitch McConnell labeled Cruz for what he was, an obstructionist for both parties? Does anyone remember the plan of Republican Leadership to force an end to Trump’s campaign? What about the fear expressed by dozens of Republican politicians that a Trump candidacy would signal the end of the Republican Party?
Does anyone remember Senator Lindsay Graham’s denouncement of Cruz, saying: “If you killed Ted Cruz on the floor of the Senate, and the trial was in the Senate, nobody would convict you?” Then, when Trump’s support continued to grow among GOP voters, Graham supported Cruz in the hope of derailing Trump.
John McCain voiced his contempt for Donald Trump frequently, and stated that his policies would be dangerous for our nation. But when asked the question; ‘if Trump wins the nomination, would you vote for him;’ McCain said ‘of course; he’s a Republican.’ Hey, John, whatever happened to “Country First?”
Hypocrites, one and all.
Now that it has become a near-fact that Trump will receive the nomination, everyone is supporting Trump. Mitch McConnell, the worst Senate Majority Leader in history, is now willing to accept Trump as the party’s candidate. The weak-minded senior Senator from Kentucky is a ‘good old boy,’ who believes that ‘toeing the party line’ is far more important than the future of our nation.
This is the Republican way; party first, and then maybe they’ll think about representing the people of our nation.
The only right wing politician who has been consistent is John Boehner, but he is no longer in office. He is friends with Donald Trump, and calls the two of the ‘text buddies.’ He continues to denounce Cruz as “Lucifer in the flesh,” and described his contempt for the Senator by saying: “I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a bitch in my life.”
My fellow Independents; I feel sorry for my friends who have been loyal Republicans for decades. Certainly they cannot see any resemblance to past leaders who convinced them to be card-carrying members of the GOP. Neither Trump nor Cruz possess any of the abilities, morals, or belief in the America of our forefathers which were the core of their principles and ideals. I do not see Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, or George H.W. Bush in any manner when I listen to their tactics of fear and anger.
The bottom line as to the reason the Republican Party is fracturing is its lack of concern for the voting public. This is why political parties are bad for America. In every situation, from local and state elections to federal contests, the best candidate should win. Voting for ‘party only’ is nothing more than ignorance.
America needs leaders; leaders whose first concern is the welfare of all of our nation’s 320 million people. Special interests control our government, and that’s why Bernie Sanders is right.
