Yesterday’s Indiana primary has confirmed the Republican nominee for 2016. The polls were accurate as Donald Trump defeated Ted Cruz by more than 16 percentage points. Trump becomes the presumptive nominee, and RNC Chairman Reince Priebus is now urging the party to rally behind their candidate.
Insuring a Trump nomination was the somewhat surprising suspension of Ted Cruz’ campaign. Once the results offered proof of another crushing defeat, Cruz did the right thing and resigned from the competition.
Has the Republican Party been rescued? The division caused by a Trump candidacy is now expected to reunite most Republican voters who will continue to vote for a party rather than the best candidate.
Hypocrisy continues to dominate Republicans. In the next few days voters will undoubtedly hear praise for a Trump candidacy from those who previously angrily opposed him. It never matters to Republicans who the candidate is, they will cast their ballot for him, knowing full well that he may be a danger to the future of our nation.
Led by Reince Priebus, Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan, a ‘dump-Trump’ effort never materialized. Trump’s numbers increased as voters expressed their displeasure with the Republican establishment. “Trumpenstein” was created by the failure of GOP leadership, and now it must nurture its folly and hope to defeat the Democratic candidate in November.
National polls currently reveal that Hillary Clinton would defeat Trump by 14 points, and Bernie Sanders would win by 16. History tells us that their leads will lessen as election day nears. The final results may give credence to the polls, but we will not know the outcome until November 8th.
Trump now has a target on his back for the Democratic candidates, and it’s a big target. Trump’s weaknesses are in the demographics. Polls prove that he cannot receive support from women, blacks, Hispanics, and religious groups other than Christians. He is also unpopular with millennials who have proven by their example that they plan to vote in 2016.
Hopefully Republican voters will ‘wake-up’ and join Democrats and Independents in the truth that Trump is totally unqualified to lead our nation. He knows nothing about national security and international relations. His domestic understanding comes from living in a ‘golden tower.’ Without experience, and his failure to represent all Americans, he should be considered a non-candidate.
All Americans, with the exception of the Republican Party, will continue our efforts to ‘dump Trump.’ We need only to look at the last two general elections to understand the importance of a true patriot, a man or woman loyal to the American people, living in the White House.
Sarah Palin proved to be the worst choice for a running mate in American history. As she spewed angry rhetoric, and proved her lack of intellect, the American people realized that she was a heartbeat away from the presidency.
Romney’s own words caused his defeat. When he belittled millions of Americans for being poor, his demise was guaranteed.
Trump is far worse than either of these failures. He has ostracized tens of millions of the American people, including many in his own party.
What an embarrassment for the GOP; a man despised and hated by millions of our nation’s people, and people from other nations, is now the leader of the Republican world. His views on issues now become the policies of the entire party.
