Donald Trump is now the presumptive Republican nominee. Will this result in less derisive speech and more substance? He has already altered his position on several issues.
He appears to support an increase in the minimum wage saying; “I mean, you have to have something that you can live on.”
Trump also moved away from his tax plan which would have favored the wealthy and increased the deficit. “I am not necessarily a huge fan of that,” he told CNBC. “I am so much more into the middle class, who have just been absolutely forgotten in our country.”
Now that a national campaign will be far more costly, he has reneged on accepting donations. “I know that people maybe like me and they form a super PAC, but I have nothing to do with it,” the candidate said Wednesday on “NBC Nightly News,” adding, “So we’ll see what happens.”
Trump appears to be a chameleon. The question is, will he revert to the brash and braggadocio individual who slaughtered his opponents in the primaries?
There will be no change in the protests outside of Trump events. His racism and bigotry will remain the focal point of millions of Americans. His inability to accept criticism will force the return of “Trumpenstein.”
Although Trump claims that he has no concern whether or not other Republicans support him, he will realize that he cannot win without them. Trump’s greatest concern is the limited number of demographics who support him.
His greatest difficulty will be the presidential debates. Without solutions for our nation’s domestic issues, he will be forced to resort to hyperbole once again.
It is difficult for me to believe that the American people will see a new Donald Trump. His past appearances at events such as CPAC, and his rallies today, demonstrate his lack of ability to stay on focus and offer progressive ideas for the betterment of the American people.
He is also frightening conservatives. He denies the austerity measures they hold so closely. Although it seems like a misnomer, Trump is displaying a small amount of common sense. His mention of supporting the working class joins his prior statement regarding a move towards a pro-choice stance on abortion.
One thing I can guarantee; because Republicans place their party before the American people and our nation, all members of the GOP will voice their support for Trump before the November election. They will rally around their standard bearer in a desperate attempt to avoid a third consecutive defeat for the presidency.
Not a single American can be proud of this election season. Its unpredictability is the only characteristic which fascinates me. Not a single political “expert” had predicted Trump and the success of Bernie Sanders.
Yesterday I had an interesting thought. Aware of Trump’s past relationship with the Clintons, wouldn’t it be a “hoot” if this entire “Trumpenstein” situation was a plan to insure a Hillary Clinton presidency?
As someone who follows politics closely, nothing would surprise me. When the 17 passengers of the clown car were announced, I asked a very serious question: Really?
