In the United States one entire political party has become dominated by Islamophobia. Sadly, although it is a fear tactic to gain votes, it has created a nation filled with hatred. Fortunately, others around the world who use their intellect instead of emotion, are displaying a sense of reality.
Sadiq Khan is a former human rights attorney, the son of a bus driver from Pakistan, the leader of the Labour Party, and was declared the winner of an election Saturday, making him the first Muslim Mayor of London.
London’s residents are approximately 25 percent foreign born, and 12 percent Muslim. After the Paris attacks, London’s Muslim population received dozens of assaults. Regardless, the 45-year-old Mr. Khan is now the mayor of Great Britain’s capital city.
Thanks to individuals such as Donald Trump and his ‘birther’ campaign, many Americans continue to believe that President Obama is a ‘Kenyan Muslim.’ Our nation’s people are the least informed in the world. More than one-half of our citizens depend upon television for their information, or believe everything they read on the internet. The media fails to present complete stories about most issues, and refuses to report facts which are not politically correct.
Fortunately, millennials refuse to watch broadcast television. They research stories they choose to read on the ‘smart phones.’ They are better informed than we baby boomers, and the future of our once great nation.
It should seem strange that a nation which has the greatest document ever created by man in our Constitution, fails to support its guarantees that every American citizen will be treated equally. Politicians have brainwashed the weak minded and they believe everything they are told.
Hooray for the people of London who decided to elect the best man for the job and refused to be prejudiced.
